CONTROLLER
A. SENIOR PURPOSE
1. The purpose of this role is to manage the accounting department and ensure compliance with accounting and industry standards. Additionally, the Controller shall maintain sufficient checks and balances to assure the integrity and safety of company assets.
B. MANAGER ONCE REMOVED
1. The manager of the Controller is the Business Operations Manager
2. The manager once removed is the President
C. KRAS
1. KRA #1 – Financial Management
a. Tasks/Activities
i. Provide timely financial reporting each month.
ii. Consolidate monthly WIP projections and review with operations.
iii. Provide accurate and conservative financial forecasting.
iv. Prepare reconciliation of all financial related documents – bank statements, month end closing, etc.
b. Accountability
i. Each month, review financial reports for timeliness, accuracy, and completeness.
2. KRA #2 – Banking and Bonding
a. Tasks/Activities
i. Ensure that all covenants required by banking institutions and bonding companies are being met at all times.
ii. Maintain a positive relationship with financial service providers.
iii. Keep abreast of all positive and negative developments that impact banking and bonding capabilities and relationships.
iv. Develop and nurture secondary “fall back” relationships with alternate provider of financial services.
v. Provide timely, accurate information as required.
b. Accountability
i. Prior to annual review, solicit feedback from banker & surety on their perception of how well the company is doing in regards to financial reporting and management.
3. KRA #3 – Cash Flow
a. Tasks/Activities
i. Provide on-going cash projections (6-month).
ii. Oversee and manage project billing process, working with PMs to ensure consistent overbillings and timely submission of progress payment requests.
iii. Manage accounts receivable process including the development of an escalation process to resolve accounts receivable issues.
iv. Manage accounts payable process to ensure timely and accurate payments to trade vendors and subcontractors.
v. Develop and implement a consistent methodology for issuing lien releases and filing liens when necessary.
vi. Work with purchasing department to maximize leverage of trade credit with strategic vendor partners.
vii. Provide input to executive team on contractual payment terms & conditions and retention levels.
b. Accountability
i. Net DSO of 45 days or less
ii. Consistent improvement each year in cash flow results
iii. No losses as a result of failure to lien
iv. Net overbillings equal to 5% of annualized revenue
4. KRA #4 – Budgeting
a. Tasks/Activities
i. Develop operating budgets linked to strategic plan and sales forecast.
ii. Assist in developing overhead budget.
iii. Monitor monthly overhead expenditures in relation to budget.
iv. Develop and implement dual overhead recovery method to ensure accurate allocation of overhead expenses.
b. Accountability
i. Variance from monthly operating budget measured and tracked
5. KRA #5 – Payroll
a. Tasks/Activities
i. Develop and manage efficient and error free payroll submission process
ii. Oversee time card entry and payment distribution process.
iii. Establish review procedure to eliminate potential for timecard fraud or misreporting.
b. Accountability
i. Minimal recoding of time entries.
ii. 0 instances of time card fraud.
6. KRA #6 - Tax Planning Opportunities
a. Tasks
i. Identify various tax planning opportunities and strategies yearly based on current regulations (i.e. cost segregation studies, R&D tax credits, energy tax credits, change in accounting method, sales and use tax)
ii. Meet with tax planning advisors and executive management to develop tax savings strategies
b. Accountabilities
i. Annual plan developed that is implemented throughout the year
7. KRA #7 - Key Issues
a. Tasks
i. Identify and educate executive management on key issues affecting the business including:
a. Changes in tax code
b. Construction finance best practices
c. Depreciation
d. Lease accounting rules
e. 401k reform developments
f. Health care reform and cost
b. Accountability
i. During annual review, measure ability to deal with changing rules, regulations, and opportunities on a proactive vs reactive basis
D. QUALIFICATIONS
1. A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (or similar)
2. 3 years’ experience in construction accounting
3. Previous experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
4. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both verbal and written communication
5. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
6. Attention to detail in multiple tasks
7. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
