Job Description:

Serves as a Construction Inspector/Construction Manager for a project to support the Bureau of Indian Education facilities projects. Projects include maintenance Work Order items, facility improvement and repairs, renovation, and quarters improvement and repair.

The Construction Inspector/Construction Manager shall provide a comprehensive program of Project Engineering, Planning, Scheduling, Design reviews, Value Management Assessments, Safety Compliance Reviews, Monitoring and Testing Compliance, Record Keeping, Cost Estimating /Budget Control, Change Management Documentation Management, Constructability Reviews, Quality Assurance Monitoring, Safety Inspection, and monitoring the construction contractor’s adherence to standards to meet the specifications and to avoid deficiencies in the work. Other requirements include the level of work performed daily, performing weekly and monthly written reviews and reports with photos; change order proposal reviews and schedule development adherence; recommendations pertaining to the integrated master schedules (IMS), written and oral communications, and coordination efforts as required.

Responsibilities include:

The Construction Inspector/Construction Manager shall provide all the required services listed above in collaboration with appropriate subject matter experts within VCI. CM shall perform Quality Assurance inspections as a representative of the client, document construction activities and progress in accordance with plans and specifications and observe contractor quality control inspections and testing. The Construction Inspector/Construction Manager shall review construction contractor’s submittals and shop drawings and provide feedback. Provide recommended responses to Requests for Information (RFI) with assistance from designer of record and VCI subject matter experts. Support commissioning efforts when project is complete and new/repaired systems are brought online. Must have a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English both orally and written and experience in preparing technical correspondence, written reports, and briefing project team and client

Education and Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited college or university with at least an associate degree in Engineering Technology or Construction Management and 10 years of construction inspection/management experience directly performing services / tasks identified herein.
  • High School diploma, 15 years of construction experience performing the services / tasks identified herein.
  • Certification in Engineering Technologies from a recognized organization is desired.
  • Must be able to pass a Federal NACI background investigation
  • Specialized training in Construction Quality Verification or completed an equivalent course.
  • Proficiency in computer software programs such as MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe, MS Teams
  • Average agility and dexterity. CMI will be required to perform duties that involve air / ground travel, moderate walking over rough, uneven, or slippery surfaces, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, climbing ladders or similar activities, recurring lifting of moderately heavy objects less than ~50lbs such as testing or measuring equipment, and regular visits to construction sites.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Completed 30 Hour OSHA construction training within the past two years or ability to complete the training in first 15 days upon hiring
  • During peak project periods travel expected to be 50% of time
  • Experience in working with a diverse group of people and creating a collaborative team environment while holding to standards of construction practices and contractual execution.
  • Experience of safety practices in the construction industry, including a background of familiarity with USACE (EM 385-1-1) and OSHA safety requirements.
  • Experience with Maximo is preferred.:

Salary: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour
