About the Role:

As a healthcare data analyst in the Population Health Strategy — Information Exchange and Data Insights Practice Area, you will collaborate with team members to conceptualize, deliver, and support our clients through today’s ever-changing healthcare landscape. NYSTEC is considered a trusted advisor, providing subject matter expertise and connecting the dots for our clients. NYSTEC has consulted on some of the largest Medicaid initiatives and served in various roles across a multitude of New York State healthcare technology systems.

This role will be supporting healthcare technology initiatives for our clients, partners, and stakeholders by providing analytical expertise to evaluate clinical data across New York State. The ideal candidate should have a diversity of strengths, including experience with statistical analysis, query, or programming language (SQL, Python, R, SAS, etc.), and analyzing large data sets within the healthcare industry. The ideal candidate is passionate about research and learning and has exceptional written and verbal communications, strong documentation, critical thinking and analytical skills. The ideal candidate should have the ability to manage and develop key relationships with colleagues and clients through collaborative thinking and a strong customer focus.


Candidates will have the option to be based in our New York City, Albany, or Rome office.

About you:

Required Qualifications

  • Experience writing ad hoc queries in SQL.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, with strong skills in Excel.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem solving, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to develop relationships with stakeholders and to understand their needs through excellent listening and effective written and verbal communication.

Preferred/Desired Qualifications

  • Experience using R, SAS, or Python.
  • Experience using clinical data, provider data, and/or payer data to inform decision-making.
  • Knowledge of healthcare data standards and exchange protocols, such as USCDI and Health Level 7 (HL7).
  • Ability to inform requirements from a data and data architecture perspective.
  • Experience with data quality analysis, data cleansing, or data profiling.
  • Master’s degree in mathematics, data analysis, health informatics, statistics, computer science, or a related discipline.

Education and Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree and three years of related experience data analysis, informatics, or data science.
  • An equivalent combination of advanced education, training, and experience will be considered.
