Contact Lens Technician Job Description
JOB TITLE: Contact Lens Technician
REPORTS TO: Technician Supervisor
JOB SUMMARY: The Contact Lens assistant is responsible for ordering and distributing contact lenses
and giving instruction on the insertion and removal of contact lenses.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience/Abilities Education
Experience in healthcare/eye care field desirable High School Diploma
Possesses excellent communication skills
Possesses strong organizational skills
Requires exercise of judgment
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the Optometrists with patient care functions related to contact lens
prescription and education
- Maintain contact lens trial room as needed by ordering stock trials and rotating out soon to expire trials.
- Complete incoming contact lens verifications and notate patient chart accordingly.
- Take orders and respond to inquiries from patients over the phone, via fax and/or email in a timely manner.
- Evaluate and review patient’s Electronic Health Record to determine compliance with the contact lens Consumers act.
- Submit contact lens fittings and contact lens benefit allowances to insurances.
- Make appointments for patients who need to have contact lens pickups and fittings, once ordered trials have arrived.
- Package and mail returns within prescribed time restraints
- Instruct patients in the insertion, removal and daily care of lenses
- Receive and distribute lens orders to patients and call to inform patients that the lenses are available.
- Monthly inventory of contact lens pickup drawer and dispensed drawer.
- Perform other duties as assigned
