Based out of Warren, MI - Travel based on project assignment 25-35%
1st shift but might have to be on an off shift depending on project M-F, slim sat & sun (depending on project)
Bachelor's degree in engineering required
Experience with:
- Body shop and general assembly, plant floor systems experience
- Conveyor controls experience (1), robot engineers (hands on experience FANUC IDEAL)
Description:
The career level process engineer is responsible for Program Execution for Machine Controls and Robotics. Work is performed in a centralized manufacturing engineering activity or assembly/plant activity where a considerable amount of creativity and initiative is exercised as well as a high level of independent judgment.
We’re looking for an engaged, technical engineer to communicate requirements to suppliers, support suppliers at their build shops, integrate supplier solutions into the plant, validate system functionalities, and provide technical and continuous improvement support for newly integrated systems. Controls engineers must exercise independent judgement, initiative, and creativity to develop innovative solutions and drive best practice implementation. Work may involve developing, testing, and piloting novel manufacturing technology.
This opening is not for a specific plant or project. We are hiring for general openings within the Vehicle Systems Automation team and will assign each candidate to a manager with an opening on their team as needed.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- New program implementation/execution (SOR prep, forecasting, controls/robotics design, equipment build/run-off and buyoff)
- Design, construction, integration, plant installation, successful launch and continuous improvement of equipment and tools required in plants for the production of high quality parts
- Manage deliveries to program timing milestones
- Existing program/site support (troubleshooting, etc.)
- Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with all customers/plants
- Provide technical direction to less experienced controls engineers
- Design and troubleshooting of electrical controls systems
- Work may involve development and testing of advanced process technology
- Overtime and Travel as required, based on assignment
Basic Skills – Required
- 5+ years of experience as a controls engineer
- Strong technical knowledge of electrical/control systems and the ability to apply these concepts within a manufacturing environment
- Demonstrated basic understanding of mechanical concepts involving machine designs, process requirements involved in the manufacturing process
- Experience in PLC and HMI programming, Ethernet and/or DeviceNet networks
- Knowledge of servo motors, motion control and drives
- Problem solving, analytical, interpersonal and communications skills required
- Ability to design and trouble shoot electrical controls systems
- Demonstrated excellent level of analytical ability, communication and interpersonal skills required to build relationships with team members and customers to solve problems and resolve issues.
- Demonstrated ability to manage challenging projects and assignments with high level of autonomy and accountability for results
- Demonstrates initiative by reaching beyond work assigned to improve output and/or help others
- Ability to use computer, interpret blueprints, engineering drawings and learn new systems
- Self –motivated and ability to multitask
Preferred Skills
- Demonstrated understanding of plant floor work
- General knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics is a plus
- Prior work experience as a controls engineer in the automotive field
- Experience with Siemens, Allen-Bradley
- Knowledge of global controls architecture (GCC-H and GCC-S)
- Knowledge of at least one of the following areas: Body Shop Systems, General Assembly Tooling, or Plant Floor Systems/Error proofing.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree with major in engineering or equivalent experience/training.
