Food and Beverage are what add flavor to a stay! Guests love to enjoy delicious, freshly prepared, and beautifully presented food. To deliver a great guest experience – a Cook/Chef, as a member of the kitchen team, will assist in preparing food in a timely manner, helping guests to have memorable experiences whenever and wherever they dine.
Financial Returns:
- Control food usage to minimize waste. Mathematical skills, including basic math, percentages, quantities, and variances are used frequently
- Advise supervisor of low inventory items; assist in receiving items and taking inventory as required
People:
- Work as a team and communicate and coordinate with other departments to ensure excellent quality and service. Communication skills are used frequently when interacting with the other cooks, wait, staff and supervisors,
- Maintain sanitation and cleanliness standards in the kitchen area that meet or exceed any local laws regarding health and safety
- Maintain a clean, neat, and well-organized work area, including but not limited to reach-ins, walk-ins, and counters
- May assist by performing dishwashing or other kitchen duties as needed
- Remain current in all updates about new procedures and training.
- Follow directions thoroughly.
- Live and demonstrate the Maya Hotels' core values.
- Work with minimal supervision.
- Satisfactorily communicate with guests, management, and co-workers to their understanding
- Perform department/outlet opening or closing duties as required.
Guest Experience:
- May occasionally interact directly with guests Prepare and cook orders in accordance with portion and quality standards specified in recipes
- Take action to solve guest problems/complaints and use established guidelines for any service recovery to ensure guest satisfaction.
- Anticipate and address guests service needs.
- Maintain confidentiality of guest information and pertinent hotel data.
Responsible Business:
- Ability to comply with local laws regarding food handling or serving of alcohol
- Maintain sanitation and cleanliness standards in the kitchen area that meet or exceed any local laws regarding health and safety
- Maintain a clean, neat, and well-organized work area, including but not limited to reach-ins, walk-ins, and counters
- Follow all established safety protocols and procedures at all times. Immediately report any unsafe or malfunctioning equipment or any safety incident to the supervisor or manager on duty.
- Maintain a professional and high-quality service-oriented environment at all times.
- Uniform and personal appearance are kept clean and professional and are by Maya Hotels Grooming Policy. A smile is considered part of the uniform.
- Comply with Maya Hotel's policies, procedures, and Code of Ethics.
- Maintain a cash drawer throughout the shift and ensure it balances correctly at the end of the shift.
- Promote a safe working environment
- Learn and adhere to all fire and emergency procedures, including procedures for the handling of the fire panel, ensuring guest safety, and participating in an evacuation if necessary.
- Practice safe working habits, including bending and lifting appropriately to avoid injury, reporting hazards, appropriate set of cleaning chemicals, and working to minimize tripping and falling hazards,
- Prioritize and organize.
- Be a clear thinker, remaining calm and resolving problems using good judgment.
- Participate in helping the hotel recycle.
