Job description

Nexteer Automotive is looking for a talented engineer to conduct Finite Element Analysis of steering systems, sub systems and components to assist design and product engineers. Candidate must be motivated and experienced in the operation of leading FEA software and pre/post processors.


Responsibilities:

  • Construct FEA models from CAD data for steering gear systems, sub systems, and components using HYPERWORKS and ABAQUS.
  • Construct models following guidelines and procedures. Required to review models and verify specified modeling criteria is met and produce reports summarizing compliance.
  • Provide required simulations for durability, heat transfer, or NVH on system or sub-system levels as required.
  • Post-process FEA results and produce summaries.
  • Work closely with product engineers to develop solutions to design problems.
  • Develop necessary test plans to correlate simulation models.
  • Provide design direction based on FEA results.
  • Stay abreast with new technology and computational techniques.


Required Skills:

  • 5+ or more years of experience with CAE
  • 5+ or more years experience with HYPERWORKS or equivalent
  • 5+ or more years experience working with ABAQUS or NASTRAN
  • Deep understanding of engineering theory and principles of design
  • Oral and written communications skills to work effectively with others
  • Understanding of probability and statistical analysis
  • High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual or difficult
  • Demonstrated project leadership skills
  • Good working knowledge of basic mechanical design principals such as: strength of materials, physics, statics, kinematics and dynamics with the supporting math skills
  • Knowledge of analysis and verification techniques
  • Strong computer skills and use of basic office software (MS Office, Excel)


Educational Requirements:

Bachelor: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Aerospace Engineering (required)


Master’s Degree: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Aerospace Engineering (preferred)
