The Crematory Operator reports to the Location Manager and will have the responsibility to see that the remains are properly received and processed at the crematory, and that the cremated remains are returned to the authorized person(s)/Location. The position carries out safe, dignified, and professional cremations while ensuring the safe operation of crematory equipment and complies with, all processes and customer service policies under the supervision of, and the direction of, the Crematory Supervisor and General Manager. Additionally, ensures dignified, professional, clean and appropriate conditions within and outside the immediate vicinity of the crematory.

The Crematory Operator’s duties must be performed consistent with company mission and values and adherence to company policies and procedures. To perform this job successfully, the crematory operator must perform each of the job functions satisfactorily.

Essential Functions and Competencies

  • Carry out ethical and dignified cremations in a safe manner and in accordance with Nevada state laws and regulations and Company policies procedures.
  • Perform and manage various customer service and administrative duties including but not limited to assisting in the effective and efficient delivery of services, and responding to telephone calls, email and walk-in inquiries.
  • Work with various departments to accomplish tasks efficiently and accurately.
  • Ensure the highest level of care and dignity are afforded to the deceased, and that the cremation is performed under the strictest of policies and procedures.
  • Show respect and sensitivity towards client families
  • Receive remains creating proof-positive identification and documentation for each cremation case, and ensure all documentation is complete
  • Complete all required documentation with respect to cremation process and equipment maintenance
  • Strict adherence to all professional, municipal, state/provincial and federal licensing authority regulations applicable to the cremation of human remains
  • Promote a safe work environment by being aware of and practicing universal precautions and adopting general principles of safe conduct
  • Maintain the crematorium, equipment and adjacent facilities
  • Deliver cremated remains to appropriate funeral home
  • Any other duties as directed by management
  • This job is Nonexempt.

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • To be company and state/province certified, or working towards certification, to cremate human remains in the state/province they wish to work
  • Good driving record and valid current driver’s license required if performing removals and transfers of bodies and delivering cremated remains.
  • Previous customer service experience would be an asset
  • Good communication skills

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Must obtain Crematory Operator Certification through an accredited organization approved by the Nevada State Funeral and Cemetery Services Board.
