Position
The Cultural and Environmental Restoration Program Specialist is a full-time position in the Upper Mattaponi Indian Tribe’s Project Management Office (PMO). They will support tribal council and steering committee activities. The program specialist will attend professional development trainings in the program areas of cultural education, cultural resource management, and natural resource management as well as training in program development, grant writing processes, funding opportunities, and compliance issues unique to their program area specialties. The program specialist will work closely with and guide the steering committees as they work together to formulate mission statements, policies, and grant projects. Once programs are initiated, the Program Specialist will facilitate monitoring and evaluation to ensure success.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage, monitor, and assess professional development trainings related to cultural education, cultural resource management, and natural resource management.
- Provide in-depth assistance to assigned program area steering committees in the development of each group’s mission statement, strategic plan, and program area policies and procedures.
- Provide in-depth assistance to assigned program area steering committees in all grant and project proposals.
- Facilitate monitoring and evaluation of active programs.
- Work regularly with the program director, project consultants, and tribal volunteers to ensure that all processes are standardized and that steering committee activities respond to project objectives and needs.
Knowledge, Skills and Ability Qualifications:
- Minimum of high school diploma or GED and five (5) years of professional experience;
- Ability to travel to attend required professional development training opportunities;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills;
- Ability to understand and comply with federal, state, local, and tribal laws and grant administration regulations;
- Ability to work well with others;
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); and
- Any combination of experience, education, or training that would support the required knowledge and abilities is also qualifying.
Other Requirements:
Applicants will be required to authorize a background check and submit to drug testing. Failure to do so will disqualify applicant for consideration for the position.
Work Environment:
This is an office position.
Physical Requirements:
The program specialist must be able to sit for extended periods, work at a computer and lift file boxes up to 25 pounds.
