Purpose of Position

We are looking for a part-time data analyst & programmer. The candidate will be working in a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment specifically on three tasks: (1) to develop literature mining pipelines for protein-protein interaction identification from biomedical texts using state-of-the-art BERT and LLM models; (2) to improve Ignet (Integrated gene network) (https://ignet.org), a web-based centrality- and ontology-based literature discovery system for analyzing and visualizing biological gene interaction networks; and (3) to develop or implement natural language processing pipelines for network-based analysis of biomedical entities.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop literature mining pipelines for protein-protein interaction identification from biomedical texts using state-of-the-art BERT and LLM models
  • Improve Ignet (Integrated gene network) (https://ignet.org), a web-based centrality- and ontology-based literature discovery system for analyzing and visualizing biological gene interaction networks
  • Develop or implement natural language processing pipelines for network-based analysis of biomedical entities.

Required Competencies

  • Computer skills are required: Python programming, Machine Learning, and Natural Language Processing sills
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills, with the ability to interface and communicate effectively with team members from diverse backgrounds
  • Excellent planning, time management, organizational, and work coordination skills are needed

Minimum Requirements

  • B.S. in Computer Sciences, Bioinformatics, or relevant area
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in Python programming with a strong understanding of machine learning and natural language processing
  • Evidence of familiarity with biomedical literature mining using machine learning and natural language processing approaches through at least one research publication
  • Experience in other machine learning approaches is preferred but not required
  • Successful Completion of a Criminal History Background Check
