Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida is a member of Feeding America – the largest charitable domestic hunger-relief organization in the United States. SHFBCF secures and distributes food and grocery products to approximately 600 local nonprofit feeding programs throughout Central Florida. Job Summary
Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida, alongside Feeding Florida and food banks from across the state, have received federal funding through the Department of Children and Families to launch SNAP-Education programming. SHFB will be administering SNAP-Ed programming regionally in 7 counties – Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Lake, Brevard, Volusia, and Marion. This brand new program will meaningfully change the landscape of nutrition and health promotion programming of the food bank system, and SHFB is looking for an experienced and mission-driven Data and Evaluation Specialist to support data related program deliverables and data driven decision making for the program.
The Data and Evaluation Specialist will oversee evaluation and reporting systems for the Second Harvest Food Bank SNAP-Education team. This role will create tools to support team members in successfully capturing data requirements in the field, support the management of all data collection platforms/databases, support data integrity efforts, and support the Nutrition Education Manager in pulling and analyzing data needed for state level reporting. The Data and Evaluation Specialist will also work to increase understanding, visibility, and usefulness of program data within the team and across member food banks and partners.
The ideal candidate is an effective data specialist, problem-solver, and communicator with a proactive, organized, and collaborative style. We are looking for someone who is passionate about helping people understand how to interpret and use data for building strong programs.
Job Responsibilities
- Develop systems and protocols for the SHFB SNAP-Ed team to collect and report out required deliverables for SNAP-Ed programming, in coordination and alignment with Feeding Florida state data team
- Develop programmatic process measures and protocols for the SHFB SNAP-Ed to support Manager in making programmatic decisions related to program growth and quality
- Train, support, and monitor staff in implementing recommended systems and protocols for data and evaluation, with an emphasis on fidelity and data integrity
- Support data entry efforts
- Coordinate multiple data collection systems and databases
- Ensures the effective use and analysis of our statewide program reporting system, PEARs
- Strengthens and monitors data entry requirements through training and technical assistance;
- Analyzes reporting data for trends, best practices, and challenges
- Analyzes, interprets, and communicates program data to drive program improvement and expansion
- Conducts regular analysis of program data and provide summaries for Nutrition Education Manager, other SHFB staff, community partners, Feeding Florida and/or DCF
- Manages successful implementation of our statewide evaluation efforts for nutrition education and healthy pantry programs
- Implements quantitative and qualitative evaluation efforts in partnership with funders, member food banks, and the community;
- Identifies and leads process improvement efforts;
- Increases engagement and culture of evaluation across food bank nutrition teams
- Analyzes public data sets that inform programming to meet strategic goals

Knowledge, Skills, Education and Experience Required
- Mission-driven individual who believes in our vision to inspire and engage our community in ending hunger
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in public health, nutrition, statistics, health and human services, data analytics, information technology, or related field from an accredited college or university
- Minimum of two years of experience in program evaluation and/or data management, specifically working with programs related to health and/or human services
- Excellent problem-solver and communicator with demonstrated skills in the collection, entry, cleaning, and basic analysis of data.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel
- Deep commitment to organizational mission of ending hunger and addressing health inequity
Desired Skills and/or Certifications
- Experience working with both quantitative and qualitative data
- GIS Mapping Experience
- Structured Query Language experience
- Previous training and/or certification in HIPAA or CITI
- Experience building data systems and processes from the ground up
- Experience in hunger-relief advocacy or social justice
- Personal or lived experience with food insecurity or poverty
