Summary
Overview
Bechtel Plant Machinery, Inc. (BPMI) is seeking a data scientist or machine learning engineer for its Monroeville, PA location just east of Pittsburgh.
BPMI is a project engineering organization supporting the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. BPMI provides design, manufacturing, and supply chain management of the fabrication, testing, delivery, installation, and field support of nuclear power plant components installed in submarines and aircraft carriers. In addition, BPMI provides upgraded replacement components in support of refueling and overhaul activities, and aids in the ultimate storage and disposition of spent naval fuel. BPMI also delivers information technology and operational solutions to the Nuclear Navy, enabling them to fulfill their critical mission.
Roles and Responsibilities
- This position is responsible for analyzing existing and future datasets for both technical (from system development concepts through the end-of-life system support) and business (business and logistics data analysis) functions.
- Collaborate with data owners to scope problems and deliver solutions that improve engineering decision making and simplify business processes
- Design, develop, test, and deploy machine learning models
- Work with data engineers to build out and optimize data infrastructure; helping grow a culture focused on data analytics
- Continuously learn and teach new data science trends and techniques
- Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
Qualifications
Required
- B.S. or M.S. degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistical Mathematics, or Engineering from an accredited college or university.
- Direct experience in design, developing, testing, and deploying artificial intelligence, machine learning, or data science solutions, with a focus on model deployment.
- Experience with data storage (SQL), data querying, and analysis tools (Python, R).
- Experience working with data warehouses.
- Demonstrated completion of data analytics/machine learning projects for technical or business applications.
- Demonstrated understanding of math and statistics.
- Must be a U.S. citizen due to government security clearance requirements. In order to work at BPMI, applicants must complete a Federal background investigation and be granted a security clearance.
Preferred
- Domain expertise in mechanical, electrical, nuclear, industrial, maintenance and reliability, or other related engineering disciplines.
- Experience with project management such as cost estimating and schedule adherence.
- Experience with Natural Language Processing including Large Language Models.
- Experience with MS Power Platform and Azure.
- Familiarity with MLOps or DevSecOps principles.
- Experience teaming with data owners and users to understand the needs of varied stakeholders.
- A proven track record of effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Self-starter with creative problem-solving capabilities.
