Job Purpose: The Dental Assistant is a skilled member of a patient’s oral health team. The Incumbent serves as a link between the patient and the care team to support a positive patient experience and ensure efficient delivery of patient care. The Incumbent is additionally responsible for a variety of tasks that ensure the Practice runs on time.
Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and one Saturday per month
- Ensure timely, friendly service to patients and create a positive patient experience by providing support to the Doctor. Greet and welcome patients to their appointment and prepare them for any necessary procedures.
- Ensure the patient’s needs are met and they feel valued by liaising with the Doctor, patient, and care team.
- Assist the Doctor chairside during the exam including recording of findings, passing instruments and materials, providing suction and air/water as needed, take impressions, x-rays, and pictures as needed.
- Proactively manage the Doctor’s schedule to ensure efficient, on-time appointments.
- Ensure the office, operatories, and equipment is ready and in good condition to meet the needs of patients and team members.
Prepare operatories for upcoming appointments with the appropriate equipment, instruments, and materials to ensure the patient’s visit is as effective and efficient as possible.
- Stock and prepare instrument trays with the necessary instruments and materials for upcoming appointments.
- Effectively sterilize and thoroughly clean operatories, instruments, and equipment following each appointment in a timely manner to meet demands of daily schedule, in compliance with OSHA standards and Practice guidelines.
- Complete instrument sterilization in a timely, effective, and efficient manner to meet the needs of upcoming appointments.
- Package biohazard materials following appointments in compliance with OSHA standards.
- Ensure dental equipment and materials are appropriately stocked and in good condition ordering additional clinical supplies, instruments, and materials as needed.
- Provide support to other team members to support the Practice’s day-to-day operations. Oversee lab cases, which may include pouring/trimming models and creating custom trays.
- Assist with recare protocol and reappoint hygiene patients to meet the 80% reappointment goal.
- Assist with patient check-in and phone communications, or other front desk responsibilities as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- 1+ year experience.
- CPR certified.
- Previous experience within a customer service and/or healthcare environment.
- General knowledge of dental terminology and procedures.
- Working knowledge of computer programs and software and/or a willingness to learn.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to adjust communication style appropriately to meet the needs of the individual/stakeholder.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain professional relationships.
- Ability to develop and maintain a collaborative relationship with the Doctor.
- Ability to effectively manage the needs of multiple individuals, including one’s own time.
- Ability to exemplify and uphold the values, vision, and mission of the Practice.
- Ability to maintain OSHA, and HIPAA standards, including continuing education as needed.
- Ability to work for extended periods of time while standing or sitting.
- Ability to perform repetitive, fine hand movements for extended periods of time.
- Ability to approach projects and problems with creativity, enthusiasm, and confidence.
- Ability to hold oneself accountable and take ownership for one’s actions, successes, and failures.
- Ability to be flexible in the work environment and willing and able to adapt to changing organizational needs.
Physical Requirements: Alternating between sedentary and active work, exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally or a negligible amount frequently.
Physical Demands: Primary working position-sitting and standing, with occasional walking, stooping, crouching, and kneeling; frequent fine hand movements, reaching, carrying, lifting, pushing, pulling, fingering, grasping, typing, talking-speaking clearly, hearing-conversation, and seeing-near.
Work/Environment: Moderate noise level consistent with a dental office and consistent interaction with patients in a healthcare setting.
Personal/Physiological: Interaction with people, working around people, resolving conflicts, holding oneself accountable for meeting deadlines and finishing work, making judgments on a regular basis, frequent changes in duties and volume of work, intra-organizational and patient communication.
