Position Summary

Creative Reaction Lab is searching for a Deputy Director that would thrive in a team-centered, co-creation culture for racial and health equity that centers Black and Latinx youth. The Deputy Director will manage the programming efforts at Creative Reaction Lab, while overseeing and supporting the fundraising and development department of the organization. The Deputy Director will have both internal and external facing responsibilities, ranging from program, campaign and project management (program/curriculum development, framing of key approaches, high-quality program delivery, written products) to administration (people management, reporting, evaluation), and partnership cultivation. The Deputy Director will partner closely with the President and CEO to measure Creative Reaction Lab’s future growth and strategic response to an ever-increasing demand for the organization’s services. This role will be groomed to become the Executive Director of Creative Reaction Lab.

Responsibilities

Administration

  • Co-create, direct, implement, disseminate and administer program strategies and objectives to ensure alignment with organizational mission, theory of change, and impact metrics.

  • Oversee Development Director and the fundraising and development department.

  • Provide executive leadership operational and technical reports on programs and fundraising performance and advise how best to achieve impact goals and results.

  • Co-create and manage overall program vision, short-term and long-term.

  • Develop and monitor program and fundraising department budgets to meet fiscal objectives.

  • Establish program and fundraising milestones with department staff and monitor adherence to plans and schedules.

  • Co-create department specific policies and procedures to enhance efficiency while sustaining company values including power shifting, humility, focused adaptability, and equity-centered.

  • Ensure that program operations and activities are consistent with legal guidelines, youth protection procedures, and internal policies.

  • Co-develop and implement evaluation strategy, KPIs, and milestones for the program and development departments.

  • Keep Creative Reaction Lab’s executive team and full staff up-to-date on youth programming progress via reports and presentations.

  • Recruit, onboard, and manage program and development staff.

  • Provide high-level input to inform staffing decisions related to growth, performance and accountability.

  • Co-create and maintain Staff and Board Handbooks, policies, procedures, and compliance with employment and board leadership laws.

Program Management

  • Lead Seeds of Power Fellowship Program.

  • Develop, manage, and expand curriculum, programs, and tools in youth development curriculum and evaluation, the Equity-Centered Community Design process, and racial and health equity.

  • Co-facilitate institutional and community-facing youth programming and trainings with program staff.

  • Ensure youth program alignment with Creative Reaction Lab’s Theory of Change, Equity-Centered Community Design Framework, existing community priorities, existing reports, and measurements.

  • Co-create and co-manage internal and external youth alumni engagement opportunities, including, but not limited to, pipeline opportunities with partnership organizations.

Fundraising, External Relations and Partnership Development

  • Manage lead development for youth program partners and oversee fundraising donor cultivation.

  • Assist with recruitment, communication, and management of community and corporate partnerships, with a particular focus on developing pipeline opportunities for program alumni and education partners.

  • Contribute to grant writing and reporting processes.

  • Represent Creative Reaction Lab as appropriate with stakeholders, partners and funders.

Team Management and Thought Leadership

  • Structure and lead teams to deliver outstanding programs and fundraising campaigns.

  • Build and maintain strong program, alumni and donor relationships; demonstrating exceptional relationship-building.

  • Provide coaching and training to push staff to reach Key Performance Indicator goals.

  • Represent Creative Reaction Lab in industry-group conferences, professional associations, and other public venues.

  • Develop thought leadership around specific topics/emerging practice areas.

  • Share in knowledge dissemination, reporting, and communications.

Strategic Planning

  • Proactively identify internal opportunities and challenges and work with executive leadership (Directors, President and CEO) to address them.

  • Manage key projects and special initiatives that relate to organizational growth.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university and/or at least 5 years of related experience in nonprofit management, executive leadership, and/or administration.

  • Extensive senior management experience in a dynamic, responsive environment.

  • Proven track record of strategic financial management, business strategy, strategic planning.

  • Strong program development and/or management experience.

  • Approachable and collaborative, willing to learn as well as teach.

  • Team player and capable of working independently and collaboratively.

  • Demonstrates resourcefulness in setting priorities and solving complex operational problems.

  • Understanding of how trauma impacts traditionally underinvested individuals and communities and this influences the design and delivery of programs serving them.

  • Experience creating and managing budgets.

  • Ability to manage complex projects and departments.

  • Highly skilled at staff management, coaching, and development.

  • Experience managing cross-functional teams to develop and implement systems and processes to increase effectiveness and efficiency.

  • Experience navigating complex issues and making difficult decisions, often in high-pressure situations.

  • Strong oral, written, analytical, public speaking, and interpersonal communications skills.

  • Excellent cash management, employee engagement, writing, editing, planning skills.

  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from partners, vendors, internal staff, board directors, and the general public.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects independently and within a team.

  • Ability to give and receive direct feedback.

  • Ability to mentor and coach staff and program participants as a visible, approachable sounding board/resource.

  • Ability and willingness to continuously and critically examine one’s relationship to power, privilege, oppression, history, and healing.

  • Must be able to pass a background check.
