Position: Director of Development

Status: Full Time

Reports to: President

FLSA: Exempt

Salary: $70,000 to $80,000 with robust benefit package

Position Objective Summary: Primary responsibilities relate to relationship management and fund-raising, both by developing and maintaining effective relationships with individual donor base, donor prospects and corporate partners.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for planning, development, implementation, and evaluation the Foundation’s development program by:

  • Oversees planning and implementing all philanthropic fundraising appeals including direct mail, DIY events, camp appeal and annual giving
  • Oversight and leadership guidance of the Development Department’s team members and its actions including all special events
  • Assist with corporate giving and major gifts
  • Creating and review of the department’s metrics and budgets and providing ongoing oversight to ensure that budgeted net revenue goals are met or exceeded
  • Continuously investigating and evaluating new fundraising possibilities and ways to improve current fundraising programs to accomplish the Foundation’s goals as identified in the strategic plan
  • Working with established systems, stewardship processes, fundraising platforms and database

Responsible for maintaining and developing relationships by:

  • Establishing and/or managing relationships with various individuals or organizations to secure funding and sponsorships for both programs and fundraising events
  • Research and identify potential donors and sponsors and implement strategies to foster positive relationships

Responsible for grants coordination by:

  • Research, draft, and submit proposals to different organizations or individuals to receive funding for the Foundation fundraising and program initiatives in tandem with the Program Department

Responsible for participating in the Leadership Team effort to accomplish the Foundation’s mission statement, goals and strategic plan by:

  • Providing a leadership or support role, as delegated, for tactics assigned to the Development Department
  • Collaborating & communicating effectively with other team members
  • Attending and participating in internal meetings as scheduled

Maintaining an appropriate and effective rapport with external contacts and Foundation team members

Participating in off-site fundraising initiatives and programs as it applies to the Development Department

Support and adhere to the Foundation’s policies and practices

Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Must have excellent verbal communication skills, including comfort and experience with public speaking
  • Must be detail oriented, a team player, and be able to multi-task with a wide variety of on-going projects
  • Must be able to build and maintain a knowledge of epilepsy, our mission, and our programs; and effectively communicate it to others in a variety of settings
  • Must have superior collaboration skills, including proven ability to work effectively with multiple stakeholders
  • Must be able to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner in order to meet current needs
  • Must be an energetic, organized, individual with excellent people skills
  • Must possess the ability to represent the Foundation in a professional and ethical manner
  • Must have excellent written communication skills
  • Must be willing and able to perform physical work with the ability to stand for extended periods of time, carry, climb, stoop and to load/unload various objects up to 25 lbs
  • Must be willing to travel and work flexible hours. The Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan covers the entire state of Michigan; therefore, this position will require traveling throughout the state and will include overnight travel, weekends and/or evening events

Knowledge and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Nonprofit Management, Communications, or related field
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in fund development and held the title of Development Director preferred
  • Experience with Salesforce, Pardot, and Classy preferred
  • Experience with Canva, WordPress, and Loomly ideal
  • Computer skills and knowledge of:
  • Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.),
  • Experience using Zoom Platforms
  • Connection to epilepsy is ideal

Working Conditions:

Office conditions represent the primary working environment with a work from home option. Physical activity, including reaching, bending, lifting, and prolonged periods of standing, may be required when participating in and preparing for Foundation programs. Ability to travel and reliably get to and from community presentations, events, and meetings across the state is required.
