: DIAGNOSTIC PRESCRIPTIVE TEACHER

: Sites as assigned by Special Education Department


POSITION SUMMARY
: Under the direction of the Director/Supervisor of Special Education, conducts educational assessments and writes educational assessment reports at the elementary, middle and/or high school level. Diagnostic Prescriptive Teachers participate in IEP meetings, are highly knowledgeable in all facets of special education and serve as a resource to special education staff and IEP teams; plan and conduct trainings on educational assessments and report writing, as well as other areas of the IEP process as appropriate. Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff and community agency representatives. Assists with the development of IEPs, selection and modification of instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of students; follows required regulations, procedures, and practices.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND EXPERIENCE
:

At the time of application, the candidate must hold or be eligible for:

  • A Maryland Standard Professional Certificate or Advance Professional Certificate in special education
  • Experience as a special education teacher.

  • Knowledge of the curricular, instructional, and environmental barriers that may exist for students and understanding of how to support students in moving around or through the barriers.
  • Ability to maintain good organizational skills and meet all required timelines.
  • Knowledge of disabilities, evidence-based practices, and appropriate strategies/activities for working with students with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of and ability to select, administer, score, and/or interpret educational assessment instruments/results.
  • Knowledge of the IEP process and special education regulations and requirements.
  • Ability to write appropriate and compliant IEPs and understanding of how to deliver specially designed instruction
  • Knowledge of the Maryland College and Career Ready Standards and the general education curriculum
  • Understanding of and ability to maintain rapport with persons from diverse, cultural, ethnic, and racial groups (parents, other professionals, students, teachers, administrators, community agency representatives.) Ability to interpret data to adjust instruction, write appropriate goals and objectives and/or communicate appropriate progress.
  • Ability to conduct formal educational assessments and write educational assessment reports in compliance with special education regulations and requirements.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Maryland On-line IEP preferred.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and motor vehicle insurance.
  • Demonstrated success in accomplishing tasks akin to the responsibilities listed below.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND DUTIES
:

  • Participates in IEP meetings, at assigned buildings, to review evaluation data for students and determine eligibility for special education and to determine appropriate educational programming.
  • Selects, administers, scores, and interprets formal and/or informal tests given to students in the special education process.
  • Use a variety of formal and informal assessment techniques to evaluate students.
  • Write compliant assessment reports and provide copies to assigned building administrator and parents prior to IEP meetings.
  • In special cases, attends meetings to review existing data and determine if assessments are needed, writes appropriate IEPs and completes paperwork related to the IEP process in a timely manner.
  • Serves as a resource to special education staff and IEP teams, including sharing federal, state, and local special education regulations and requirements as necessary.
  • Improves skills and knowledge base and remains current in selecting appropriate assessments, changes in administering assessments, and updates to current practices and assessment use.
  • Support the development of appropriate Individual Education Programs (IEPs) to meet the academic needs of students.
  • Support the provision of specially designed instruction by serving as a resource to special education teachers.
  • Supports the work of inclusive practices through ongoing training, understanding, and IEP development.
  • Reports complaints/concerns to the director and/or supervisor of special education.
  • Plans and conducts trainings on educational assessments and report writing, and other areas of the special education process as appropriate.
  • Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff, and community agency representatives.
  • Attends and actively participates in Special Education Staff Meetings, professional learning opportunities, and required trainings.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices.
  • Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintains regular, on-time attendance.
  • Serves on special committees.
  • Thinks, concentrates, and interacts positively with others.
  • Comes to work promptly every day.
  • Works flexible hours as necessary.
  • Works under stress and meets all deadlines.
  • Travels from school to school as necessary.
  • Travels out of county as necessary to conduct student observations and/or to administer educational assessments to students in non-public placements.


OTHER JOB DUTIES

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
: Ten (10) month position and salary commensurate with qualifications and experience applied to the current Calvert County Public Schools’ salary schedule for teachers. All employees are encouraged to have automatic payroll deposit.


EVALUATION
: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the policy on evaluation as established by the Calvert County Public Schools.


EFFECTIVE DATE OF POSITION
: 2023-2024 school year
