Diesel Mechanics

Days Off: Friday & Saturday or Sunday & Monday
Location: Downtown Orlando, FL
TYPICAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Examines the vehicle and discuss with a supervisor or other mechanics the nature and extent of the damage or malfunction.
  • Raises vehicle, using a hydraulic jack or hoist, to gain access to mechanical units or parts attached to the underside of the vehicle.
  • Removes units, such as diesel engines, transmission, or differential, using wrenches and hoists.
  • Disassembles units and inspects parts for wear, using micrometers, calipers, and thickness gauges.
  • Replaces lights and instruments. Replaces and adjusts headlights, and installs and repairs accessories, such as radios, mirrors, heaters, and windshield wipers.
  • Drains & properly disposes of fluids including oil, transmission, differential, radiator, etc. into appropriate receptacles using hand tools to remove plugs, caps, etc. Cleans units as required.
  • Installs replacement parts such as oil, fuel, and air filters, belts, hoses, caps, windshield wipers, bulbs and lenses, and other routine maintenance items as needed or scheduled.
  • Lubes, vehicle using lube gun. Replaces grease fittings as needed.
  • Performs multi-point safety checks on vehicles such as tire tread depth and wear patterns.
  • Accurately and timely completes checklists and other related paperwork.
  • Test-drive vehicles to ensure work orders and assigned maintenance tasks have been properly and safely completed.
  • May be required to perform other related duties as requested.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Minimum High School graduate or equivalent preferred.
  • Formal diesel and/or heavy-duty vehicle training is preferred.
  • Experience in the field of Automotive, Bus, Truck, or diesel engine repair preferred.
  • Skill at: Inspecting, diagnosing, testing, and repairing buses or other vehicles and their systems.
  • Skill at following both verbal and written instructions.
  • Knowledge of: Use and care of hand tools, equipment, and machinery, safe work practices.
  • Licenses: Valid Florida driver’s license with a good driving record for test driving motor coaches on company property.
  • Must be over age 18.
  • Special Requirements: Must have own hand tools or be willing to acquire hand tools.
  • Must be able to work holidays, weekends, and evenings.

Job Type: Full-time.
Salary: $15.00 - $28.00 per hour.

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Orlando, FL: Reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work. (Required)

Experience

  • Diesel engine repair: 1 year. (Preferred)
  • Mechanical knowledge: 1 year. (Preferred)
