The Director of Deli-Bakery-Foodservice is responsible for the purchasing, negotiating, contracting, and category management of $.4 Billion in purchases. The Director leverages Topco Member, regional retailers and wholesalers across the US, volume to deliver sustainable competitive advantage. They effectively lead and motivate their team to ensure business objectives are being met or exceeded while being accountable for financial goals and cost savings. The Director establishes and maintains professional relationships with commodity industry experts and suppliers to identify opportunities for enhanced procurement strategies and partnerships. They maintain understanding of commodity markets and work with the Senior Director of Commodities to ensure execution of commodity risk management and procurement strategies of the department. Topco Associates is currently seeking a Director, Deli-Bakery-Foodservice for the Deli-Bakery-Foodservice Team in Elk Grove Village, IL. This position will be a hybrid role, with the successful candidate conducting work in our Elk Grove Village office and virtually.

Program Management
- Manages and leads procurement specialists to leverage member volume to deliver sustainable competitive advantage.
- Formulates effective procurement strategies, tactics, and action plans to drive sales growth and cost savings while establishing performance metrics and conducting performance reviews.
- Develops strategies and effectively manages categories to ensure that expectations are clear, and results are achieved.
- Supervised leads and directs the procurement and category management teams to achieve departmental and corporate goals.
Leadership
- Works to improve individual performance, addresses current opportunities or problems and promotes initiative in others.
- Coaches and develops team to increase their competence, confidence, and capability to make significant contributions to grow sales, margins and savings.
- Leads through inspiration, training, leading and motivating team; acquires support for decisions and actions; and able to overcome objectives and reach common agreements.
Member Relationships
- Develop and maintain member relationships and takes actions that benefit the member and the business.
- Effectively communicates ideas and data both verbally and written in a persuasive and appropriate manner.
- Works cooperatively and collaboratively with purchasing team, program management, internal teams and members to support the development of new business, programs and overall success of the team.
Procurement
- Leads and implements strategic sourcing strategies.
- Leads and implements commodity risk management strategies to drive cost savings
- Establishes and maintains professional relationships with commodity industry experts and suppliers to identify opportunities for enhanced procurement strategies and vendor partnerships that maximize value and drive performance.
- Leads evaluation and selection of new suppliers through.
- Manages and lead negotiations through category reviews, RFI's and RFP's to drive cost savings.
- Leads investigation of alternative distribution and cost options to achieve member savings.
Product Development
- Leads collaboration with QA and program management for effective product cuttings and category reviews.
- Leads relationship with Brand Management & Packaging Operations teams to implement new packaging or packaging upgrades/changes.
- Collaborate on marketing and merchandising assets with the Integrated Marketing Solutions team.
- Leads research and responses on all State & Federal compliance or information requests (non-supplier related)
- Leads teams’ efforts to during implementation of new product development and effective communication with membership.

Qualifications:
Education:
- College Degree or Equivalent Experience/Education combination required
- MBA or advanced degree preferred
Technical skills:
Working knowledge of MS Office
Previous Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years purchasing or category management experience
- Minimum of 7 years supervisory experience
- Previous experience in Deli, Bakery or Foodservice is required
- Public speaking/presentation skills
- Ability and/or experience with commodity price analysis
Other qualifications:
- Able to work in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment.
- Able to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms with people at all levels, including member personnel.
- Proven ability to manage others, inspire confidence and interact with others at all levels.
- Able to interpret industry data and make business decisions based on the material, and to perform basic mathematical calculations on a regular basis.
- Ability to negotiate successfully in marketing/buying situations.
- Familiarity with major product sources, industry practices, quality levels, packaging and logistics
- Ability to speak publicly and make presentations to groups of various sizes
- Able and willing to travel by plane, car, and other means of transportation as required
- Successfully complete Topco's internal purchasing training course
