JOB SUMMARY:

The Director of International Education is responsible for the overall operations of the Roukema Center for International Education (RCIE) and provides leadership, management, development, and assessment of the College’s internationalization activities. The Director, who serves as the College’s Senior International Officer (SIO), drives strategic planning to develop a vision for RCIE’s programming and operations and oversees international programs and partnerships, support services for international students and scholars, and risk management. The Director is accountable for all related operations, policies, and budgets, writes and administers grants, supports fundraising efforts to strengthen internationalization initiatives, supervises the RCIE staff, and collaborates with faculty and staff to create on-campus, off-campus, and virtual international programs. Although the Director is supervised by the Dean of the Anisfield School of Business, the work done and the programming offered by RCIE should serve the entire college community.


Duties/Responsibilities:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, articulate, and present a mission/vision for the Roukema Center for International Education (RCIE) and translate this vision into strategic goals by developing a unit-specific assessment plan in relation to the College’s mission and Strategic Plan goals and objectives.
  • Work collegially with the RCIE staff to ensure the successful implementation of the Center’s mission/vision.
  • Facilitate outreach to and solicit input from the Academic Deans and faculty, as well as various stakeholder Cores and Units across the College, to create and implement operational plans, programming, and initiatives related to international education.
  • Collaborate with the Admissions/Recruitment staff to develop and implement a comprehensive marketing and recruitment plan for international students that has specific annual targets.
  • Collaborate with the Academic Deans and faculty to internationalize the curriculum and develop faculty-led study abroad experiences.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to develop and sustain strategic, mutually beneficial partnerships with academic, governmental, and non-government organizations across the globe.
  • Serve as the College’s liaison to coordinate short-term study or exchange opportunities for students or staff who attend or are employed by Ramapo’s global partners to visit the U.S.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing and recruitment plan for all international education programs, including externally provided and faculty-led study abroad and co-op opportunities, facilitated by RCIE.
  • Actively represent RCIE’s opportunities and programs to students, parents, partners, and relevant constituencies. Advocate the role of RCIE and its services college-wide.
  • Coordinate and disseminate information about RCIE processes and procedures. Upon request, lend expertise to improve/develop administrative policy that supports faculty, staff, and students engaged in international activities (e.g., international travel).
  • Lead the development of waiver forms, institutional agreements/contracts, etc. related to international travel and program participation.
  • Manage the College’s international travel registry.
  • Assume responsibility for risk mitigation, risk management, and emergency planning for international programs and employee travel, including serving as Chair of the International Risk Assessment Committee (IRAC).
  • Assume responsibility for all fiscal matters at the unit level. Plan for, request, and disburse operational, grant/donor, travel, scholarship, and other funds legally, responsibly, and fairly within given budget limitations. Monitor and reconcile budgets, including student billing and payments for international mobility programs, on an ongoing basis.
  • Maintain compliance with international, federal, and state mandates in all RCIE operations and activities.
  • Pursue and administer external grant and donor support for global initiatives. In collaboration with Advancement staff, participate in external fundraising efforts.
  • Prepare data-informed reports, plans, and analyses to document and advance RCIE’s activities, programs, and initiatives and utilization of resources, as well as international student enrollment, as compared to established annual targets.
  • Supervise day-to-day operations of RCIE and the RCIE staff.
  • Develop and foster a culture that embraces and supports diversity, equity, and inclusion amongst RCIE staff.
  • Regularly meet with the Dean of the Anisfield School of Business to discuss initiatives, opportunities, and concerns related to international education.
  • Serve on College committees, task forces, etc., as assigned. Actively participate in Provost’s Council and other committee meetings, initiatives, and activities.
  • Represent international education at internal and external events or functions. Participate in regional, state, and national organizations to further the role of international education, as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Work experience within institutions of higher education is preferred.
  • Experience in risk management is preferred.
  • Experience in studying, working, or living abroad is preferred.
  • Ability to secure and administer external funding (e.g., grants, donations) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of international education trends on the state, national, and global level.
  • Demonstrated experience with budget management, including revenue-generating global programs.
  • Demonstrated evidence of developing and/or managing international partnerships and programs.
  • Ability to work with diverse stakeholders (e.g., students, faculty, staff, administrators, parents) in a collaborative environment.
  • Knowledge of or demonstrated ability to learn technology, software, and various platforms (e.g., SEVIS, TerraDotta, Studio Abroad, Banner student information system, U.Achieve, Microsoft Office suite, Google suite, Word Press) relevant to the position and Unit operations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, intercultural, oral and written communication, and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to diversity and cultural differences. Demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural environment.
  • Ability to work with confidential and culturally sensitive matters in a professional manner.

Education/Experience:

REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

A Master’s degree in a field related to the responsibilities of the position from an accredited college or university is required.

EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of five years of progressive leadership experience in international education is preferred.
