Reporting to the Director of Residence Life and Housing, the Associate Director of Housing Operations is responsible for the leadership and management of WCU owned and operated residential facilities including over 2,000 beds in four traditional-style buildings and two apartment complexes. The Associate Director plans and oversees the advancement of a business operation generating $13.5M in housing revenue; oversees the planning of department assessment initiatives to measure student satisfaction with their living environment; and creates metrics to ensure short and long-term strategic priorities are in place to support department, division and University strategic plans.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of budget management, housing assignments and operations policies, practices and procedures, data and systems management; a commitment to contribute to a a fast-paced, student-centered dynamic environment; and the ability to work collaboratively with a variety of constituencies from diverse backgrounds.
Responsibilities include:
Supervise and participate in the implementation, and management of the housing technology database management system, and University systems integration to ensure successful completion of the housing assignment process- Provide leadership, planning, development, and implementation of housing operations initiatives
- Manage software implementation and upgrades, data management, and data reports
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships that best position WCU Housing in the competitive marketplace through collaborative efforts with areas such as Admissions, Facilities Management, and Dining Services
- Collaborate to develop and implement short and long-term construction and renovation projects
- Serve as a primary contact and strong support for the University’s affiliated housing University Student Housing (USH)
- Implement occupancy management in alignment with enrollment projections
- Communicate with students, parents and families about the housing process
- Create and maintain housing dashboard and conduct occupancy assessments
- Collaborate to create replacement cycles
- Direct policy related to the application, billing and payment, and housing assignments
- Oversee contract administration, assignments, charge assessments, exemption and termination requests, refunds, and other inquiries, or concerns related to housing contracts
- Direct the implementation, integration, and maintenance of software platforms necessary to efficiently and accurately manage occupancy
- Address the concerns of parents, families, and students related to their housing assignment, charge assessment, and living experience
- Three years of full-time, post-graduation experience in higher education/student affairs, residence life, and / or housing where housing operations were a significant part of the experience
- Bachelor's degree in education, business, or related field
- Three years of supervisory or managerial responsibilities
- Availability to work evenings and weekends when necessary
- Availability to participate in on-call duty rotation and arrive to campus as required in emergency situations
- Three plus years of full-time professional experience in housing and residence life
- Budget management experience
- Experience utilizing, implementing, and managing database management systems (StarRez / Adirondack)
- Experience utilizing enrollment projections to manage occupancy
- Experience managing housing application and room assignment processes
- Experience creating complex reports to manage and analyze data
- Experience collaborating with facilities to manage building renovations and upgrades
