Position: Director of Operations
Location: Monterey, California
Job Summary
The Director of Operations (DO) will report to and work closely with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) as a leader and coach, responsible for the operations, data tracking, finance, internal controls, staff development, program support, and overall achievement of our mission. The DO will have the ability to operate on strategic, managerial, and hands-on levels and to help guide the organization across programmatic and administrative functions.
The DO will bring proven nonprofit management expertise and experience in community-based programs, fundraising, youth development, advocacy, finance, operations, and other relevant disciplines.
The DO reports directly to the CEO and supervises office staff, volunteers, interns, and contractors.
DO will supervise Salesforce, Quickbooks, G-Suite, Microsoft, Adobe, etc.
Responsibilities:
Leadership and Management
The DO will support the CEO to:
● Cultivate the organization's systems, culture, and philosophy.
● Create a culture of transparency and open communication among staff, board, volunteers, community partners, and funders.
● Proactively identify internal opportunities and challenges and work with the CEO to address them.
● Manage key projects, events, and special initiatives related to the organization's growth.
● Manage board communications, development, engagement, and reporting on outcomes.
● Manage employees and all human resource (HR) activities. Recruit and develop a team to manage critical mission functions.
● Engage and energize volunteers, board, event committees, donors, and affiliates toward identified goals.
● Draft and enforce processes and procedures for efficiency.
● Participate in the creation of the organization's operating and program budgets.
● Supply CEO with financials, reports, and taxes and oversee accounting.
● Maintain and update bylaws and governance documentation.
● Work with team members to promote and achieve their professional, long-term goals.
● Organize and participate in leadership meetings.
Program Development
The DO will work closely with the CEO, Vice President of Youth Empowerment, Director of Marketing, Director of Development, interns, and volunteers to:
● Define the organization's programs and youth development priorities
● Inspire team in long-term program success, establishing project plans, and evaluating outcomes for improvement.
● Engage young people and community partner organizations to collaborate and support the organization's mission.
● Work with external partners to harness resources for youth, including but not limited to educational, community, and youth engagement opportunities.
Fundraising and Communications
The DO will work with the CEO, Director of Marketing, Director of Development, and Vice President of Youth Empowerment to:
● Expand revenue-generating activities and develop sustainable fundraising strategies.
● Strengthen and refine the brand to broaden all aspects of communications including website, social media, blog, podcasts, and content creation.
● Manage concept development for campaigns and programs.
● Contribute to grant writing and reporting processes.
● Represent the organization among stakeholders, community partners, funders, and sponsors.
● Support and lead (when appropriate) fund development efforts.
Operations: The DO will provide oversight of internal operations, including Human Resources, Finance, Governance, IT, and Facilities Management.
HR priorities include:
○ Development and implementation of effective recruiting
○ Hiring, compensation, benefits
○ Training and professional development policies
○ Sustaining an internal culture that promotes initiative, positivity, and wellbeing
○ Appropriate risk-taking, learning, cooperation, equity, and mutual respect
○ Provide high-level input on decisions related to growth, performance, and accountability
Financial priorities include:
○ Budgeting, reporting, and driving financial internal controls.
○ Prepare audit and/or audit review materials for the CEO, auditors, and board.
Facilities priorities include:
○ Implementation of health and safety protocols.
○ Oversee office appearance, supplies, and inventory.
IT priorities include:
○ Evaluating, selecting, and managing third-party vendors.
○ Support staff through remote work arrangements and troubleshooting.
○ Enforce cybersecurity measures.
○ Improve and monitor performance reporting systems (including program and fundraising data).
○ Manage, improve, and ensure successful utilization of Salesforce database.
○ Contribute to the ongoing development of the database in tracking prospective funders as well as program outputs and outcomes.
Qualifications
The DO must be thoroughly committed to the organization's mission and will execute the strategic vision, design and implement an effective fundraising strategy, and encourage growth of the organization. Proven leadership and relationship management experience is required. Experience and other qualifications include:
● Advanced degree is preferred with senior management experience.
● Track record of effectively leading and growing a business, preferably a nonprofit.
● Ability to point to specific examples of having developed and operationalized strategies that have taken an organization to the next stage of growth.
● Unwavering commitment to quality work and data-driven program evaluation.
● Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop high-performance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget.
● Past success working with a board of directors.
● Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of people.
● Strong written, verbal, and communications skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator.
● Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning.
Physical Requirements
Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, sit, and use a telephone.
Ability to obtain and maintain a California Non-commercial Class driver’s license.
Ability to lift, pull, and push up to 20lbs.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
