The Director of Talent will be a key leader and member of our People Team as Lighthouse has secured its vision of running two K-12 schools in Oakland increasing our impact for the past 10 years from 740 students reached to over 1600 students and from 100 staff to now nearly 250 staff. Maintaining and solidifying this important organizational growth requires identifying, recruiting, hiring, training, and retaining the most talented educators and leaders possible. The Director of Talent will bring a passion for urban teaching and issues of equity for low-income students of color and a deep knowledge of performance management and people development, using data to drive people strategy, HR and employment law and best practices. Additionally, the Director of Talent will have the drive and skills to develop and grow the LCPS Classified, Teacher, Clinical Staff, and Leader Pipelines, ensuring a long-term supply of quality, diverse, mission-aligned educators and leaders and clinical staff for Lighthouse schools. This is an exciting opportunity for a strategic professional with the right skills and experiences to have a lasting impact on the school's students and community, in service the mission of ensuring that every child achieves college and the career of his or her choice.

TIME COMMITTMENT
This is a 12-month position. It includes approximately 5 weeks of holidays/vacation during the school year in accordance with the school calendar, and an additional 10 days of Paid Time Off (PTO) allotted during the summer. This position is expected to maintain building hours of M - F from 8:00 - 5:00 p.m.
COMPENSATION
Commensurate with experience. Salary Range: $85,000-125,000 depending on experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Talent & People Strategy:
- In conjunction with the Chief Operating Officer and the Director of HR, contribute to a comprehensive talent and people development strategy that aligns to LCPS' Strategic Plan and Vision attending to all elements of the employee lifecycle and ensuring diversity, equity, and inclusion and retention of staff in service of our students.
- Talent Pipeline & Career Pathways & Grant Management:
- Ensure a strong pipeline of talent by proactively building and maintaining strategic partnerships and building systems to attract and identify aspiring educators with potential to be excellent teachers and leaders, including:
- Leading LCPS' Teacher Residency recruitment and placement efforts, in collaboration with the Director of Teacher Residency and Recruitment Manager.
- Leading internal career development efforts and recruitment of promising staff into talent pipeline programs, including career coaching conversations and information sessions for emerging leaders, emerging teachers, and emerging clinical staff.
- Manage and secure grants related to talent pipeline including Teacher Residency and Classified employee grants, including development and monitoring of grant budgets and data reporting in conjunction with the Director of Development and relevant program managers such as the Director of Teacher Residency.
- Oversee the development of all marketing materials for career pathway and pipeline opportunities for both external and internal audiences to know about and engage in our career opportunities at LCPS;
- Establish and maintain partnerships with higher education institutions, organizations, and individuals to:
- Provide effective and engaging professional development opportunities for current Lighthouse educators.
- Establish and provide leadership development programs to create a pipeline of aspiring school leaders.
- Provide training programs for aspiring teachers.
- Develop a training and development arc for leaders and emerging leaders across the organization in conjunction with the COO to fully map out an LCPS Leadership pipeline.
- Ensure a strong pipeline of talent by proactively building and maintaining strategic partnerships and building systems to attract and identify aspiring educators with potential to be excellent teachers and leaders, including:
- People Data and Personnel Management and Compliance:
- Collect, analyse and provide organizational and people data (hiring, recruitment, retention, staff diversity, staff effectiveness/performance, DEI metrics, exit, staff engagement, etc) to inform organizational and leadership strategy and actions
- Provide relevant and effective people data visualizations, roll ups and summaries for a variety of audiences and purposes
- Oversee personnel compliance related to staff credentialing, serving as a credential analyst, ensuring all staff maintain appropriate licensure for their roles and make adequate progress towards attaining a clear credential, in conjunction with the HR Associate
- Conduct compensation research, planning and implementation of equitable and competitive rubrics and salary ranges for all staff roles in conjunction with Director of HR and COO
- Support and at times conduct confidential investigations and oversight of employee discipline and development of effective performance improvement plans in line with LCPS Employee Handbook in conjunction with the Director of HR and COO, including serving as a Title IX coordinator
- Performance Management, Development, and Evaluation
- Lead the re-design and implementation of performance evaluations for all staff, ensuring that evaluations are supported by valid and reliable measures of performance and explicitly linked to the school's instructional vision and mission;
- Evaluate, select, and ensure that LCPS has appropriate software systems to maintain and track performance and development data;
- Design development pathways linked to the evaluation system, working closely with the COO, CAO, and other managers of teams to develop and manage staff induction and mentorship programs and professional development programs;
- Support the development of new teacher and new staff development programs in collaboration with CAO and COO
- Support leadership development efforts for strong performers identified by performance management system and managers.
- Hiring & Recruitment:
- Support hiring and recruitment efforts as needed, especially during peak hiring season, including working with the Recruitment Manager and other members of the HR team to support hiring and recruitment efforts leading to the hiring of highly effective, diverse staff poised to increase student outcomes.
- Support the development of LCPS' external and internal brand management for prospective and current employees in conjunction with the Recruitment Manager and Director of Development, telling a compelling story about LCPS as a place to work, grow, and develop in one's career.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in talent management or related HR/organizational management, required; experience in schools as a leader, coach or teacher, highly preferred
- Deep understanding of talent and performance management, with experience directly advancing organization-wide goals in a measurable way.
- Experience related to adult professional development and on-the-job embedded learning experiences preferred.
- Demonstrated understanding of school structure and the education sector.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, initiative, and leadership skills.
- Excellent organizational skills; which include the ability to prioritize and manage several projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work with a variety of school stakeholders from staff to volunteers to families and students.
- Excellent data analysis skills and experience synthesizing data to drive action steps.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, html and other web design programs.
- Warm, congenial, and able to maintain cooperative working relationships.
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's in education, nonprofit management, business or related field preferred.
- Spanish fluency, a plus
