The Director-Service Line (Heart & Vascular) Quality and Safety is responsible for the development and implementation of standard, patient-centered processes that will improve delivery of care throughout the service line settings. This Director collaborates with clinical operational leaders and other system leaders in areas such as Finance, Quality, Transformation Consulting, Analytics, and Planning and will support and align with service line and system strategic priorities as they relate to quality care outcomes and process improvement. The Director develops and implements effective policies, procedures, and processes, ensuring consistency of best practice implementation and providing oversight and ongoing performance monitoring and action planning on key standardized quality or safety metrics. The individual who holds this position exemplifies Henry Ford Health’s and the Heart and Vascular Service line’s mission, vision, and values and acts in accordance with the system and service line policies and procedures.


PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Focus areas:

1. Quality and Value Based Care Management:

  • Serves in collaboration with service line Quality Medical Director as system’s point of contact for quality within the service line; maintains partnership with the system’s and the service line’s quality teams to ensure alignment in processes and procedures
  • Oversight includes service line quality programs such as quality registries and accreditations
  • Creates processes that help in achieving higher quality of care and lowering costs
  • Leads value-based care initiatives, such as exploration of partnerships with insurance groups, centers of excellence, direct-to-employer, and bundle opportunities

2. Process Improvement Management:

  • Utilizes Lean principles, leads the overall value stream transformation of the service line
  • Leads and manages teams in the redesign, development, implementation, and continuous improvement of programs, processes, and initiatives within the service line, leading to measurable improvement outcomes
  • Identifies and eliminates barriers in performance improvement initiatives, supporting the transformation of front-line staff and providers to leaders for quality and safety
  • Provides project guidance and support to teams involved in change initiatives

3. Strategic Planning, System Integration & Program Development Management:

  • Participates in the development of key initiatives to move forward care of patients and families, and identification of metrics to evaluate service line and organizational success for quality and safety
  • Leads efforts around program development that are quality related
  • Participates in cross-system integrative work related to quality, safety, satisfaction, and engagement to include balanced scorecard development across service line
  • Facilitates the integration of the service line within the larger system in the areas of safety/quality concerns, regulatory, and accreditation compliance
  • In collaboration with the Medical and Operational leaders, considers the operational, human resource, and financial impact of strategic programs, changes, and policy/practice decisions

4. Data Management:

  • Oversees and leads data management, definitions, and data integrity for the service line, including, but not limited to, executive and operational dashboards, service-line projections, quality databases.
  • Participates in data governance discussions to ensure alignment in definitions across the system and service line.
  • Maintains shared oversight of data analysts, in partnership with service line senior leadership and analytics management
  • Partners with registry teams to ensure consistent operations, data availability and accuracy
  • Ensures communication venues are in place to assure mechanisms for reporting and information sharing; facilitates the establishment of a data driven culture

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare Administration, Nursing, Business Administration, or similar field. Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Public Health Administration, Business Administration, or similar field preferred
  • Five (5) years of experience working in process and quality improvement
  • Two (2) years of leadership/people management experience
  • A high level of analytical skills - understanding quality data and building action plans
  • Strong problem-solving skills to include innovative solutions for addressing clinical care, quality, and safety issues
  • Demonstrated strengths in building effective working relationships, building, and developing teams, and driving quality and safety
  • Established track record of strong project management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to interact, with and support the activities of a highly qualified, dedicated physician faculty, consulting, and primary care physicians, as individuals to support a sophisticated service line (Heart & Vascular)
  • Understanding of and appreciation for the culture and environment associated with managing a sophisticated program in a rapidly growing, highly competitive market
  • Credibly consult with executive leadership to optimize resources that may be aligned cross-functionally
  • Demonstrated experience anticipating scenarios and develop strategy options while remaining open minded to alternatives
  • Strong prioritization skills managing various initiatives
