JOB DESCRIPTION

Position: Domestic Violence Counselor/Housing Advocate

Hours: 37.5 per week

Salary Range: $44,000. - $48,000.

Reports To: Direct Services Supervisor/Executive Director

Basic Function: To provide crisis/support services and related housing services to victims, children and significant others of domestic violence in Elk County and Cameron County as needed.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Share monthly hotline and on-call duties, as needed.
  • Provide crisis and supportive counseling for victims and significant others of domestic violence.
  • Provide housing information, support, and referrals to victims and significant others.
  • Assist victims through medical and legal issues and provide advocacy.
  • Prepare a safety and service plan for every victim receiving services.
  • Provide legal and medical accompaniment and transportation to victims as needed.
  • Provide intake services for individuals who are in need of support services and who

need assistance in accessing the service system. This includes, but is not limited to,

the processing of Rental Assistance applications,relocation and/or any housing

related applications and/or services.

  • Assess service needs, and discuss with the client of available and acceptable service

options.

  • Provide follow-up and on-going counseling to victims.
  • Provide counseling and support to children, both individually and group.
  • Plan and implement recreational, educational and growth oriented activities for individuals and families.
  • Provide counseling and support to shelter guests in regard to their children.
  • Act on behalf of child victims by interacting/networking with other agencies and area school systems.
  • Consult with ED, DSS, HM, and other staff and volunteers regarding victims (Case Management).
  • Provide information/referrals to victims for child care in crisis situations/court/medical appointments, if needed.
  • Provide coverage in shelter, if needed.
  • Maintain a non-judgmental attitude when working with diverse population of victims and significant others of domestic violence and sexual assault.
  • Organize and staff on-going group counseling/parenting programs for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, if needed.
  • Assist in CAPSEA’s volunteer training, as needed.
  • Maintain confidential case files on victims, children and significant others, as required by funding sources.
  • Complete monthly statistical reports of victims, children and significant others to funding sources in a timely manner as required in the statewide data collection system.
  • Complete shelter intake forms/packets and shelter exit assessments, when necessary, for shelter guests.
  • Keep apprised of legal and sociological changes that affect CAPSEA, Inc. and the population we serve.
  • Perform all other duties deemed necessary by the Executive Director and Direct Services Supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.A. degree in a human service field and have coursework in child development and behavior management or comparable related experience.
  • Must have experience/education working with adults and children in crisis and be familiar with Trauma Informed Services.
  • Must possess the ability to counsel in crisis and maintenance situations.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and show a concert for men, women and children’s issues.
  • Must have the ability to work closely and share responsibilities with co-workers in a team environment.
  • Must be familiar with Trauma Informed Services.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Must be able to provide transportation to victims, if needed and when such transportation is a direct result of or for domestic violence/sexual assault.
  • Must have a valid Pennsylvania drivers license and be willing to transport victims.
  • Successful completion of the mandatory 80+ hours of domestic violence and sexual assault training.
  • Complete minimum 10 hours of annual training.
  • Must have the ability to work flexible hours.
  • Must be able to obtain Act 33, Act 34 and FBI clearances.
