DSHS WSH Therapies Supervisor
Job description
As a Therapies Supervisor, you will supervise staff in the substance use disorders (sud) assessment and engage and treat patients residing at Western State Hospital, Gage Center. You'll ensure that evidence-based materials are used in the assessment and treatment of patients, and documentation of services meets CMS standards and is completed in a timely manner.
In addition, you'll be responsible for the direct supervision and training of trainees under the Washington State Department of Health internship and licensing requirements. What's more, you will work closely with management to ensure patient care is timely and specific to treatment needs.
We have the following shift available:
Monday to Friday: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Some of what you’ll do
- Ensure staff develop activities and engage patients to participate in SUD active treatment and assessment (i.e., both individually and/or in a group format).
- Ensure that staff have a schedule SUD specialized program activities each day, which is relayed through regularly scheduled team huddles.
- Oversee program improvements. Facilitate regular meetings, evaluate the system to assess best utilization of staff resources and evidence-based practices.
- Coordinate assessments and activities
- Assist in hiring staff and oversee training
- Develop and monitor standards for behavior and attendance. Ensure that staff provide services and document treatment congruent with CMS standards for active treatment
- Participate on Management Team and other committees when approved by supervisor; apprise management team of and actively engage in cross-discipline problem-solving.
Who should apply
Professionals with a bachelor’s degree involving major study in occupational therapy, physical therapy, hospital recreation, manual arts, vocational counseling, or psychiatric social work AND five years experience in a therapy program, including two years in administration and direction of professional staff.
Professionals with a master's degree in the areas listed above will substitute for two years of non-administrative experience.
Note: Occupation therapy majors must possess registration with the National Registry of Occupational Therapy; physical therapy majors must possess a certificate of registration issued upon the recommendation of the Washington State Examining Committee of Physical Therapists.
Desired skills and abilities
- Agency Affiliated Counselor or clinical license.
- In-depth understanding of group and individual behavioral dynamics
- Knowledge of mental illness and recovery principles
- Ability to work with challenging patients in a therapeutic manner
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with multidisciplinary team members and patients
- Ability to lead a team toward a defined mission or goal
