Purpose:
The purpose of the Electrical Engineer is to support operational goals and metrics for tissue converting productivity, quality and safety at the facility. Work assignments and responsibilities will include: developing and implementing improvement initiatives; supporting installation and start-up of converting equipment and facility support equipment; Performing basic and advanced PLC programming, troubleshooting, and program documentation; developing electrical and control system expertise on the tissue converting process; transferring the expertise/knowledge to operations and maintenance personnel through training programs; implementing good run settings; and the planning and execution of expense and capital based projects for improvement, safety, quality and other initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate, define and solve operating problems to achieve operational goals
- Support converting equipment installation and start-up activities, provide electrical engineering leadership to resolve problems, troubleshoot and optimize the installation process to meet project objectives and schedules
- Support the definition, implementation, optimization and maintenance of a documentation system for electrical drawings, PLC software, machine drive software, HMI software and other control and manufacturing system software
- Develop knowledge and expertise on electrical and manufacturing control systems including PLC’s, HMI’s, variable frequency drives, servo drives, sensors, and power distribution and protection systems.
- Support the development of electrical and control software design standards and specifications for the plant manufacturing equipment and the plant utilities equipment and processes.
- Develop technology approaches which support improved plant efficiency, process improvement and manufacturing flexibility.
- Develop and conduct training programs with operations, maintenance and engineering personnel to increase process knowledge, troubleshooting capability, and understanding of electrical and manufacturing control systems
- Identify and solve bottle-necks within the converting process as related to manufacturing control systems
- Review equipment and processes to identify required spare parts, coordinate ordering with maintenance/stores to minimize downtime and manage spare parts inventories
- Review, support and improve the plant maintenance plan
- Perform failure analysis of electrical equipment and controls to implement reliability improvement action items
- Plan and implement expense and capital based projects for improvement, safety, quality and other initiatives
- Establish external contacts involving equipment and parts suppliers and construction/maintenance contractors.
- Carry out job responsibilities in a safe manner. Review and ensure converting and support equipment/processes meet electrical safety codes, policies and guidelines
- Develop expertise in Arc Flash, National Electric Code and NFPA 70 requirements and compliance
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
Education and Experience Background:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience and training required.
- A minimum of 2 years work experience in technical and industrial manufacturing assignments.
- Experience in troubleshooting electrical control systems on continuous production lines including PLC’s (Allen Bradley, Siemens, Elua), variable frequency drives [Allen Bradley, Siemens, Danfoss, B&R] and process control systems, HMI [Allen Bradley, Siemens, B&R], distributed control systems and power distribution
Skills & Abilities
- Skilled with computer programs including PLC programming [Allen Bradley, Siemens, Elua] , MS Excel and MS Word
- Ability to work independently and to execute programs in a cross functional environment
- Ability to build relationships with vendors and suppliers on a national basis as well as in local areas
- Must have a hands-on approach to Troubleshooting along with a strong understanding of electrical processes combined with technical knowledge
· Working knowledge of National Electric Code, NFPA 70
Essential Functions Of The Job:
· This position is in a dusty environment with noise levels up to 90 dB, must use proper PPE as provided.
· The candidate must have the ability to safely lift up to 70lb as needed.
· Must be flexible and responsive to the needs of the department/facility/business
· Must be able to sit, bend, stand and walk during scheduled shift.
· Must be able to work 8 – 12 hour shifts
