CTI provides support to the Naval Research Lab (NRL) for their work in Plasma Physics Research and Development. This includes performing on-site experimental and theoretical research in support of the Laser Fusion Program that is sponsored by the Department of Energy as part of the Nation's Inertial Confinement Fusion (ICF) Program.
The candidate will be a CTI employee but will report daily to NRL on the Maryland side of the Potomac near the southernmost part of Washington DC. The candidate will support the Plasma Physics division performing the research and testing necessary to develop and advance pulsed power and plasma science applications in the categories of radiation hydrodynamics, laser plasma, space and laboratory plasmas, pulsed power physics, and directed energy physics. Applications include high power microwave (HPM), electromagnetic launchers (EML), and high-energy high-power systems.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
Maintanence and operation of equipment for use in high-vacuum systems
Maintenance and operation of equipment for mounting and positioning optics for research applications
Fabrication, assembly and mounting of experimental apparatus on such generators
Mechanical fabrication and maintenance using power and hand tools, water jets, 3D printers, lasers or CNC routers
Assembly of wire harnesess and battery banks
Logistical support including transportation coordination, pickup and delivery services
Essential Job Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications
Associates degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent relevant technical degree and three (3) years of related experience; OR
High school diploma or GED equivalent and five (5) years or more experience in maintaining and operating mechanical, opto-mechanical and electro-mechanical equipment as well as fabricating, assembling, and mounting experimental apparatus on such equipment.
Machine shop, forklift, and crane experience
Able to obtain and maintain a US security clearance
Preferred Requirements
- Experience with mechanical, opto-mechanical and electro-mechanical equipment
- Experience with lasers, including the areas of optics, optoelectronics, and/or opto-mechanics
- Experience with maintenance of large vacuum systems and a familiarity with high voltage capacitor systems
- Ability to determine supply requirements and order and pickup materials required for efficient performance of work under the contract.
- Experience in drafting and machine tool operation
