Job Description:
This advance/complex Supervisory position in our HVAC department. This position oversees a group of HVAC technicians that installs, repairs, and makes adjustments & modifications to HVAC & refrigeration equipment and electronic & pneumatic control systems including preventative maintenance duties to the HVAC and refrigeration equipment on LSU's campuses.
Job Duties:
40%- Oversees the maintenance, operation and repairs of complex HVAC/Refrigeration and Control systems. Reviews work of subordinates and makes adjustments. Oversees the use of refrigerants to insure compliance with EPA regulation and the Clean Air Act, 1990. On occasion, handles the most complicated repair jobs.
15%: Performs diagnosis and repairs on electronic and mechanical HVAC equipment.
10%- Consults with administrative officials regarding acquisition of new equipment, major repairs, operation and maintenance of exiting equipment.
10%- Makes estimates of materials and repairs including obtaining quotes for outside vendors to determine if feasible. Maintains and inventory of parts for immediate and emergency repairs.
10%- Reads and interprets electric and electronic schematics and mechanical layouts during diagnosis and repair of equipment.
5%- Performs visual inspections of HVAC equipment, checking for safety defects.
5%- Trains journeyman and apprentices. Fill in for Manager when he is on leave.
5%- Performs other duties as assigned by the Department including on-call and emergency work when required.

Minimum Qualifications:
Four years of experience in the maintenance or repair of mechanical or electronic office equipment, precision machinery, or electronic and electrical systems or in the installation, repair or maintenance of computer equipment or systems (hardware and/or software).

SUBSTITUTIONS:
Training in a vocational-technical school or military school will substitute for a maximum of two years of the required experience on the basis of one year of training for one year of experience.

College training with at least six semester hours per year in electronics or computer science will substitute for the experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for one year of experience.

CompTIA A+ Certification will substitute for one year of the required general experience.
Necessary Special Requirement:
Must possess an appropriate Federal Communications Commission (FCC) radio-telephone license when working with marine and/or aviation transmitting equipment or with radar.
May be required to have technician certification by the National Association of Business and Educational Radio (NABER).

May be required to possess a valid Louisiana driver's license at the time of appointment.

NOTE:
The maintenance or repair of electronic or electrical systems includes the repair or maintenance of radio or television broadcasting equipment; or electronic equipment such as radios, televisions or VCRs.

NOTE:
Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.
Preferred Qualifications:
Years of Experience: 7 years of experience in the installation, operation or maintenance of HVAC control systems
Specific Experience: Experience with JCI Metasys HVAC Control System
Preferred Qualifications:
EPA Certification
Special or Physical Qualifications:
Due to the nature of this position and/or position responsibilities this position shall be subject to drug/alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67.
In accordance with University Policy Statement 18, this position is considered essential and may be required to report or stay on campus in the event of an emergency or closure.
Must be able to lift 50 lbs, be capable of stooping, kneeling, or crouching; able to reach and/or climb a ladder, climb stairs, and bend their back.
