Title: Literacy CoachClassification: TeacherScale: $44,067-$80,703Reports to: Principal or School Level Administrator as AssignedFLSA Status: ExemptEffective Date: TBDUnion Status: NTASummaryThe Literacy Coach ensures students receive high-quality literacy instruction. The Literacy Coach serves as the literacy content expert and provides support on curriculum, high-quality interactions, and the science of teaching reading.Essential Functions(The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.)PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential Functions1. Provide high-quality professional development around e?ective literacy practices and the foundations of reading.2.Provide direct, classroom-based, professional development for teachers through modeling of research-based literacy instruction.3.Provide feedback, engage in one-on-one coaching, and model best practices.4.Identify where high-quality curricula built-in supports are needed and maximized.5.Consult and collaborate with teachers concerning implementation of effective strategies to assist struggling students.6.Work with teachers to ensure that comprehensive core reading programs, supplemental reading programs, and comprehensive intervention reading programs are implemented with fidelity.7.Observe teachers, provide feedback, and identify next steps to improve instruction in core ELA instruction for the purpose of support and not evaluation.8.Analyze data, identify trends, and support teachers to adjust instruction based on data.9.Support teachers with e?ective parent communication and family involvement.10.Work with students in a small group setting when needed.11.Communicate a belief in all students abilities to become successful readers.12.Attend all required meetings and trainings.13.Communicate with leadership team on school-wide literacy progress.14.Performs other duties as assigned which are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position.Minimum QualificationsMasters Degree with a Reading and Writing Specialist Endorsement per Ed 508.09 as revised and minimum of 5 years of experience as a classroom teacher.Successful candidates will be detail-oriented, independent self-starters who demonstrate an unwavering commitment to raising student achievement and who have a record of high performance in challenging situations.Knowledge, Ability, SkillKnowledge: Strong knowledge of the Science of Reading and the pedagogy and instructional practices; knowledge of current practices, research, and historical developments in reading and writing; knowledge of the major components of reading instruction and curriculum.Ability: Clearly communicate thoughts, ideas, information, and messages in both spoken and written language.

Use language, style, organization, and format appropriate to the subject matter, purpose, and audience. Develop the literacy of each and every student through coaching staff in methods of instruction. Demonstrated ability to build partnerships with SAU staff and parents to support literacy.Skills: Skill in communicating with staff and obtaining results with struggling readers. Skills in digital technology applications and their use in literacy curriculum.Supervision Received: Works under the direction of the Principal or School Level Administrator as assigned.Exercised: NoneResponsibility: Assess students development in literacy using holistic, analytical, and diagnostic schemes; and use assessment information to plan, evaluate, and revise effective instructional approaches that meets the literacy needs of assigned students, including those at different developmental stages and those from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds.Job Environment?Work is performed under typical school conditions; the work environment may be moderately noisy.?Operates computer, printer, copier, facsimile machine, and other standard office equipment.?Contacts are in person; they generally consist of an information exchange, dialogue, discussing routine and semi-complex literacy issues.?Makes frequent contact with school department staff, students, parents, and occasionally outside agencies, organizations, and providers.?Employee has access to confidential information related to assignment.Physical Requirements(The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
