Elementary School Principal Location of Position: Hoover Elementary School, 37 Glendower Road, Melrose, MA 02176Hoover Elementary School Profile: The Herbert Clark Hoover School sits on a quiet hill abutting conservation land. Hoover School serves 300 students, K-5. A large garden and outdoor classroom compliment hands-on learning in our classrooms. Teachers are skilled at engaging students in lessons and activities that are differentiated to meet the individual needs.

The Hoover community embraces a shared partnership among school staff and families to provide each student with opportunities to grow and develop. Classroom instruction is delivered utilizing instructional practices that cultivate higher order thinking skills. Our school has successfully embedded the 7 Habits of Happy Kids to positively support student behavior by explicitly teaching social skills.Principal: 1Grades: K-5Year Built: 1965Enrollment: 300SY24 Classrooms: 14Responsibility and AuthorityThe elementary school principal is responsible to the superintendent for the organization, administration, and supervision of teaching and learning at the school. The educational leader promotes the learning and growth of all students and the success of staff by cultivating a shared vision that makes powerful teaching and learning the central focus of the school.

The elementary school principal, with commensurate authority, is responsible for the fulfillment of the duties set forth below. They may delegate to members of their staff appropriate portions of their responsibilities together with appropriate authority for their fulfillment; however, they may not delegate or relinquish their overall responsibility or any portion of their accountability. Desired Qualifications of the School Leader: Has demonstrated culturally responsive leadership qualities, interpersonal skills, and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, administrators, and parents.Has a clear understanding of the Principal's role in establishing and maintaining a safe and inclusive school environment.Has the ability to provide an accessible, strong, and visible presence and demonstrates leadership by example.Has the ability to establish clear expectations for instruction and academic performance.Has the ability to establish clear behavioral expectations.Is a creative problem solver and innovator.Performance Duties and Job Responsibilities: Administer the operations of the school.Supervise the school's educational program.Manage all aspects of school, facilities, and operations.Promotes the learning and growth for all students and success of all staff by ensuring a safe, efficient, and effective learning environment, using the resources to implement appropriate curriculum, staffing, and scheduling. Assume responsibility for the safety and administration of the school plant.Establish high expectations for all students and staff and a commitment to providing the support required to attain them.Ensure a safe and nurturing environment for students, staff, and families.Demonstrate cultural competencies and equitable leadership practices through behaviors and decision-making.Develop and implement a School Improvement Plan that sets the direction for school improvement efforts.Analyzes student performance data to inform school improvement efforts and benchmark progress.Design and implement a diversified professional development strategy that addresses instructional improvement priorities defined by student achievement and the individual needs of staff members.Conduct daily classroom observations to analyze instruction; supervises staff to ensure continuous improvement in teaching and learning.Ensure that the learning needs of all students - Special Education, English Language Learners, METCO, and Regular Education - are met.Reduce and ultimately eliminate achievement gaps through classroom interventions, school culture, and programming beyond the school day.Promotes the success of all students by nurturing and sustaining a school culture of reflective practice, high expectations, and continuous learning for staff.

Foster teacher leadership through delegation, and shared leadership and decision-making.Align the use of time, people, money, and materials to school's instructional priorities.Cultivate and sustain meaningful partnerships with families and community members that support student achievement and well-being.Attend school committee meetings as requested by the superintendent.Assume responsibility for the implementation and observance of school committee policies and regulations.Report to appropriate central office administrative personnel regarding the needs of the school with respect to personnel, equipment, supplies, and curriculum.Maintain close contact with all interested parties, including students, school staff, parents, and the community.Establish guides for proper student conduct and for maintaining student discipline.Participate in the recruiting, screening, hiring, training, assigning, and evaluating of the school's professional staff.Assume responsibility for the attendance, conduct, and health of students.Foster good interpersonal relations among students and staff.Maintain an awareness of factors outside the school that affect the school programs.Keep abreast of trends, developments, and research as they pertain to education and school operations.Exercise decisive leadership in crisis situations.Any and all other duties as assigned by the superintendent.
