JOB TITLE: ELEMENTARY TEACHER

JOB SUMMARY: The elementary classroom teacher will create a flexible, developmentally appropriate environment where children can demonstrate personal growth, social skill, and language development as well as academic skills.

MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS:

• Valid Michigan teaching certificate (K-5) required (ZG) endorsement, with a credential in an additional core academic area preferred (Mathematics, Science, English Language Arts, Social Studies).
• Strong background in child development either through coursework or experience.
• Bachelor’s degree including all courses to meet credential requirements.
• Successful experience working in an academic and/or group setting with elementary age children.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (May include but not be limited to):

• Provides learning experiences and teaches the District approved curriculum consistent with the State of Michigan standards.
• Develops and uses instructional materials suitable for students with wide range of mental, physical, and emotional maturity.
• Provides individual and group instruction designed to meet individual needs and to help students make continual progress in the school setting.
• Uses an understanding of child development to provide a variety of appropriate language, motor, social, and academic experiences to children
• Establishes a student management system that encourages effective student participation in all activities; teaches and reinforces social skill development
• Evaluates academic and social growth of students using district assessments, informal and formal assessments, and observations; keeps appropriate records.
• Uses assessment to guide instruction as well as to measure student progress on developmental goals.
• Provides appropriate instruction and activities for students to meet school/ District policies goals and objectives.
• Communicates with parents through a variety of means on a regular basis.
• Holds parent conferences to discuss the individual student progress
• Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve learning problems.
• Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays such as bulletin boards and learning centers.
• Works with fellow professionals to coordinate and teach an aligned curriculum across and between the grade levels
• Maintains professional competence through in-service activities provided by the District and/or professional growth activities and university courses.
