POSITION SUMMARY :
Under the direction of the Environmental/Asbestos Program Specialist, performs asbestos related activities as mandated by the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) and tasks related to ensuring a safe and healthy learning environment for school facilities.
This is a 12 month Local 2250 ACE/AFCSCME Position - Pay Table 200 - Grade 19
Hourly Range: $25.61 - $51.56
CLOSING DATE: May 21, 2023
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Planning and coordinating AHERA related activities (re-inspections, 6 months surveillance, management plan updates, etc.);
Performing required water, paint and radon testing;
Conducting investigations relative to indoor air quality concerns;
Monitoring asbestos abatement activities conducted by in-house staff as well as contracted projects; and
Formulating accurate and timely reports addressing related findings in their assigned areas.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Ability to accurately assess and describe area(s) of concern to supervisors;
Asbestos inspector accreditation as described in the AHERA regulations;
Good knowledge of the principles and practices involved in the testing and abatement of asbestos;
Considerable knowledge of the trade and of properties, characteristics and uses of related equipment, materials and tools;
Thorough knowledge of Federal, State and local codes and regulations related to asbestos inspections and abatement;
Good knowledge of mechanical systems and building equipment relative to indoor air quality;
Ability to understand, learn and use air and water sampling equipment pertinent to performing assigned duties;
Good knowledge of hazardous materials, pollution controls, confined spaces and OSHA/EPA regulations; and
Ability to adjust work schedule when tasks effect the regular activities of a facility or requires an emergency response, when necessary.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS :
High school diploma required. Possession of an appropriate and valid Maryland Motor Vehicle Operator's license at the time of appointment; and a driving record indicating five (5) or fewer current points, which no more than three (3) shall have accumulated as a result of traffic violations occurring while operating a Board of Education vehicle.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES :
No direct supervisory responsibilities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs.
