Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED and one year experience in a job performing work listed in the Essential Duties and Responsibilities or work that required physical labor; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Some positions in this classification may require a valid California or Nevada driver's license or capable of obtaining one within thirty-days (30) of employment. This Page 2 of 2 Position Classification & Description Conservation Crew Member requirement will be identified prior to interview. If driving is a requirement, the applicant must be able to be insurable under the Tribe's Driving Policy.

  • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assist with physical activities needed to complete forest health and nonpoint source projects

  • Cut, stack, haul and chipping work

  • Handle equipment such as chainsaw, chipper, weed eater, clippers, augers, water pumps and multiple hand tools (e.g., sledge hammer, shovel, axe).

  • Construct fencing, alternative domestic livestock water devices, and other associated non point source ranching activities.

  • Operation of heavy equipment (i.e., backhoe, dump truck, grader).

  • Transport and tow vehicles, trailers, dumpsters, etc.

  • Assist with riverbank stabilization using bioengineering practices.

  • Wear personal protective equipment (gloves, boots, hard hat, eye protection, chaps) at all times while performing duties on and off Tribal land.

  • Assist with inventories and assessments of Tribal resources including solid waste, non-point source, public outreach, and water resources.

  • Assist with recycling and solid waste projects

  • Enter data into database and complete applicable paperwork.

  • Perform other duties as required.

Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Certifications
  • Knowledge of business English, proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and basic arithmetic.

  • Knowledge of basic environmental terms.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in the English language, both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to work with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels

  • Ability to work under harsh weather and terrain conditions.

  • Ability to properly lift and carry up to fifty (SO) pounds from one location to another.

  • Ability to be sensitive to Tribal cultural needs of the communities in which the work is performed.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Physical Demands
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to stand, walk, sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to SO pounds.

Work Environment
  • Work is generally performed outdoors where exposure to natural weather conditions and various dusts and mists may occur. Prolonged standing and walking may be on uneven surfaces or unstable ground, in remote, steep, rugged, mountainous areas with unimproved dirt roads and trails. Situations where safety-toe shoes, safety goggles, gloves, protective face shields, or hardhats are needed may occur. Evening and/or weekend work may be required. Travel is required for training, meetings, conferences, presentations, and other events.

Must pass and comply with the PL101.630-Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Protection Act.
