Base Salary Range: $65,000 - $ 80,000 w/ bonus & auto allowance

GENERAL SUMMARY:
Responsible for the development and installation of a comprehensive employee environmental, safety and
health (EHS) program with the goal of reducing work related accidents and injuries. The Specialist will provide
administration support for the Safety Management System (SMS) and be responsible for the overall direction,
coordination, and evaluation of all safety policies and procedures for the region by performing the following.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Responsible for adherence to company policies including safety and the use of personal protective equipment.
  • Educates and develops a culture that encourages Good Catch Submittals, incident reporting and ensures appropriate response to reports.
  • Emphasize and reinforce the Company’s Zero Incident culture to all employees.
  • Communicates the directives of Airgas’ EHS policies and procedures with goal of reduced accidents, injuries and property loss.
  • Hands on Management of the Airgas SMS. Works directly with Safety Director with changes, updates and revisions when needed.
  • Assist in periodic plant and store safety inspections and FDA audits; prepares reports of any findings with recommendations for corrective action(s).
  • Ensures facilities are prepared and in compliance with OSHA, DOT, EPA, DHS, County and Internal audits as required.
  • Assist in compiling safety statistics for facilities.
  • Ensures all certifications and license applications are kept current for all locations, this includes but is not limited to; OSHA, EPA, and the FDA.
  • Maintains files pertaining to Federal, State, and local government compliance issues. • Assist management with accident and injury claims. Works closely, at all levels in the organization, to properly investigate and research claims.
  • Lead and promote safety in every conversation.
  • Responsible for facilitating and participate in safety meetings across the Region.
  • Compiles data and assist in Tier II, Form R, and other Environmental reporting for Federal and State agencies. Devise and create training programs or procedures which will increase the proficiency in safe practices and promote safety consciousness throughout the Company.
  • Assist the Safety Director with various office and administrative duties, such as obtaining permits, licenses, and filing and maintenance of safety records.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in industrial or occupational safety preferred, or a similar discipline that would be considered relevant to this position.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) designation is preferred.
Required Length & Type of Experience:
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in safety related capacity.
  • Must have knowledge and understanding of DOT, OSHA, EPA, DHS, FDA rules and regulations and training requirements.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSA’s):
  • Ability to be available to work a very flexible schedule.
  • Proven ability to work independently and under tight deadlines in a detail oriented environment.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and appropriate level of auto insurance coverage.
  • Must have reliable transportation and be able to work flexible hours to meet management expectations.
  • Must have proficient computer skills with Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio etc.
  • Must be comfortable with public speaking and presenting information in front of a group.
  • Possess strong interpersonal and oral communication skills to communicate effectively with a diverse group of associates, management, medical and insurance personnel, regulatory agencies, and/or members of the general public.
  • Must be able to operate in a drug-free workplace.
