Primary Purpose of Position
The primary purpose of this position is to administer and monitor the University occupational health and safety program; monitor safety programs; inspect facilities; enforce safety regulations; emergency planning; investigation; assessments; and work with faculty, staff, students and other stakeholders to ensure the safety of the campus community.

Minimum Education/Experience
Required Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a physical science, biological science, environmental science/engineering, occupational safety, industrial technology or related discipline; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

University Preferred Qualifications:

Four year degree with a preference for a related major in a physical science, biological science, environmental science/engineering, occupational safety, industrial technology or closely related science; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Essential Job Duties
  • Responsible primarily for administering SPCC, UST, Refrigerant Management, Emergency Response Equipment and other environmental programs.
  • Serve in a supportive role for administering Contractor Safety, Hazard Communication, Regulated Construction Materials, Cranes/Hoists and Fall Protection programs.


Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Procedure development
  • Equipment inspections,
  • Equipment inventorying
  • Equipment maintenance
  • Qualified personnel inventory
  • Meter calibration
  • Risk assessments
  • Data collection
  • Safety management plans and special projects.

Other Work Responsibilities
  • Other duties as assigned.

Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
  • Bachelor’s degree and one to three years of environmental, health and safety experience.
  • Experience working in a university, college, or public sector environment.
  • Experience administering environmental programs.
  • Working knowledge of safety regulations.
  • Experience using air sampling equipment.
  • Experience confined space rescue equipment.
  • Experience with basic operating knowledge of meters, calibration devices, direct reading instruments and displays.
  • Experience developing standard operating procedures.
  • Experience with collecting and managing data.
  • Experience developing or managing equipment inventories.
  • Advanced knowledge and skills in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint, Access).
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in interpreting and applying policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • General knowledge of conducting equipment inspections.
  • General knowledge of conducting a risk assessments.

Necessary Licenses or Certifications
  • Valid Driver’s License needed.
  • Some positions may require additional training, certifications, or licensure.
