The expected ENTRY pay range is $68,640 - $78,000 annually, based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. As an Epidemiologist II, you will be responsible for a variety of communicable disease surveillance activities in Maricopa County by compiling and analyzing data, producing data summary reports and visualizations, and building disease surveillance tools.
You will be part of a team of epidemiologists that conducts data analysis, disease surveillance, and disease outbreak investigations to prevent the spread of disease in Maricopa County. You will advance outbreak response capacity throughout the department and support communicable disease investigators, environmental-related illness investigators, and preparedness planners. Activities will include developing processes, managing data flow, and leading a team to identify and respond to disease outbreaks in a variety of settings, including long-term care facilities, schools, childcare facilities, and jails.

We Require
-
Master's degree in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, or a public health-related field
-
Two years of experience performing epidemiological or statistical analysis
-
A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis
Job Contributions
-
Support the division with complex disease and outbreak investigations, provides County public health guidance, and troubleshoot issues with public health surveillance systems

Develop protocols for managing datasets and identify opportunities for improving data quality

Use statistical software, such as SAS or R, to analyze public health data and identify significant associations between exposures and outcomes

Fulfill complex data requests and produce epidemiological reports for internal and external stakeholders

Provide training to Epidemiologists and Communicable Disease Investigators on MCDPH protocols, processes, and best practices

Collaborate with local, state, regional, and national-level partners to maintain and improve public health surveillance systems, data quality, and situational awareness

Participate in emergency preparedness exercises, contributes to enhanced surveillance activities, and respond to incidents of public health significance
Working Conditions

Primarily office based with extensive computer work using various moderately complex databases

Ability to work under stressful conditions related to death and disease

Strict adherence to confidentiality policies

Ability to participate in emergency response training as scheduled and be available as directed in the event of a public health emergency

Within one month of hire, all employees are required to provide evidence of immunity or receive immunizations for vaccine-preventable illnesses for any position within the Maricopa County Department of Public Health; required immunizations include MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Tdap (whooping cough and diphtheria), Varicella (chickenpox), and annual Influenza; some positions require a Hepatitis B vaccine and/or a Tuberculosis test
