Contract Period: Academic-year position, on an as-needed scheduled basis, non-exempt
Supervisor: Director of Stockbridge Theatre
Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED required; Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred. Must be computer proficient, especially with a PC, Microsoft Office, and Google Drive; be available to work evenings and weekends, with the occasional weekday; and have excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Some prior experience performing high-volume customer service-related work in a performing arts environment or with emergency situation management is desired. First Aid and CPR certification is a plus.
Duties: ● Recruiting or supervising recruiting of all house workers (ushers, greeters, refreshment or souvenir seller, etc.). ● Coordinate building opening times on show nights with the technical director or technical director. ● Orienting and training all house workers; explaining how tickets are to be taken and where they are to be stored; checking restrooms after intermission and at end of the night. ● Cleaning house area and restocking supplies. ● Ensure all lights are turned off after each show and all doors are locked and no water is left running. Review and update IT ticket queue; assign tickets to technicians and/or self. ● Prepare programs to be handed out prior to the performance (correct number of copies). ● Conduct a pre-show walk-through of the lobby and seating area to ensure the house is clean and presentable for the audience. ● Place signs as needed (e.g. photography, cell phones, etc.). ● Responsible for the safety of the audience, in case of an emergency, like a ● fire or tornado, and should know what steps to take to either evacuate the audience members or secure them in place. Instruct ushers in emergency procedures. ● Work closely with the box office manager to resolve any issues (e.g. ticket disputes). ● Coordinate with the box office if there is a waiting list. ● Confirm show time with the technical director (if there is a need to delay the start of the show an alert will be made to the technical director). ● Ensure the aisles are clear when the audience is seated.
