Job Description

Reporting to the Communications and Industry Relations Manager, the Event Specialist will plan, execute and develop events and engagement opportunities for the Myers-Lawson School of Construction (MLSoC). These events will align with the school’s strategic plan and incorporate a variety of students, faculty and staff, alumni, and industry opportunities to elevate the MLSoC and its students. The Event Specialist will work closely with MLSoC leadership and affiliated departments across the university.

The Events Specialist must have strong organizational abilities in all aspects of the event-planning process and must be able to think strategically in relation to creating opportunities for future growth. Specific work duties may include but are not limited to, contacting and coordinating venues for events, invoicing, coordinating volunteers, generating feedback surveys, and management of the fiscal aspects related to event planning. Yearly events include but are not limited to Career Fairs, Graduation Ceremonies, Board Meetings, Alumni reunions, student recruitment, open houses, and summer camps.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in hospitality, business administration, communications, public relations, marketing, or a related field and/or significant experience
  • Experience in event planning or in a coordination role
  • Experience working in a professional team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Event planning professional certification (e.g. CMP)
  • Experience coordinating and managing event staff including volunteers
  • Experience building and maintaining relationships with diverse businesses and individuals, particularly those associated with the architecture, engineering, and construction
  • Experience in higher education event planning
  • Experience with budgeting, scheduling, and record keeping
  • Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing
