A Brief Overview
The Executive Director for Quality and Safety provides strategic direction and executive level oversight for Stanford Health Care quality improvement and patient safety initiatives. The Executive Director is responsible to identify, charter, design, and lead change initiatives, and develop goals and measures that compel higher performance, safer systems, and clinical excellence. Reporting directly to the VP for Quality and Safety, this position has overall accountability for Quality, Accreditation & Regulatory Affairs, Licensing, Infection Prevention, Patient Safety, Antimicrobial Stewardship, Peer Review and Policies and Procedures.

What you will do

  • Responsible for daily oversight of the Quality and Safety department, ensuring goals are met, internal and external data is submitted, outcomes are analyzed and reported, and quality data is shared with stakeholders in a manner that drives decision making

  • Develops the annual departmental plan, measures, and monitoring processes. Collaborates with senior leaders and medical staff to achieve quality and safety goals.

  • Establishes oversight and monitoring plans to maintain compliance with all regulatory, accreditation and licensing requirements within Stanford Medicine’s care delivery system.

  • Fosters professionalism, actively engages department leaders in C-I-Care and creates a positive, supportive culture for staff, patients, and families.

  • Ensures patient safety events are tracked, categorized, and analyzed for improvement opportunities. Oversees investigative process for evaluating adverse events and near misses, as well as overseeing the external regulatory reporting required to CDPH.

  • Responsible for the timely management and review of hospital’s administrative polities and procedures

  • Provides visionary leadership to the hospital in setting or maintaining direction and goals in quality to ensure Stanford Medicine is striving for performance excellence in areas important for the future of healthcare.

  • Communicates the status of department goals to organizational stakeholders seeking feedback that is used in the annual Quality and Safety Plan update

  • Develops and maintains relationships and effective communication with all levels of the medical staff, managers, and staff to facilitate problem identification and resolution, models exemplary customer service standards.

  • Responsible for the management of high risk, problem prone areas of opportunity for improvement for the hospital. Ensure problems are prioritized and teams are working to resolve them.

  • Master's Degree


Experience Qualifications

  • 5+ years to 7 years


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Well versed in governmental and other regulatory standards, requirements, and guidelines, specifically, Joint Commission, CMS Conditions of Participation, Title 22, California Business & Professions code, California Health and Safety Code

  • Must possess a working knowledge of principles of patient safety management, High Reliability, Quality methods and tools, change management.

  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills: able to present to multi-professional executive groups.

  • Highly developed organizational interpersonal and management skills

  • Ability to demonstrate sound critical thinking and decision making under pressure; demonstrates cooperative spirit working with others to problem solve challenging issues.

  • Able to lead operational, medical staff, and leadership independently and facilitate change across a large complex organization.

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of organization, administration, fiscal and personnel management.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft office applications is required; Strong analytical skills, ability to interpret data; proficient with excel


Licenses and Certifications

  • CPHQ - Health Care Quality Certification required within 1 Year
  • CA-RN (Registered Nurse) preferred .

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $109.00 - $144.43 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
