Department Overview
The Clean Energy Transportation (CET) group is focused on accelerating the adoption of clean vehicles in California. CET leads a ~$0.5B portfolio of transportation electrification (TE) programs to increase the adoption of clean vehicles in California as we work to address one of the largest contributors to climate change – and we need a motivated, organized strategic thinker to help us determine how to expand this portfolio. We serve PG&E’s customers by deploying electric vehicle programs to increase access to charging infrastructure, reduce total cost of electric vehicle ownership, educating our customers and pursuing innovative R&D on the future of transportation electrification, focused on vehicle-grid-integration.

Position Summary
This Expert Product Manager will focus on executing Vehicle Grid Integration (VGI) requirements that arise from regulatory proceedings at CPUC and CEC. This work will include regulatory support as well as assisting/managing pilots required by regulatory decisions. The Product Manager will likely conduct quantitative analytical work, technical assessment, and qualitative work to support various regulatory proceedings, research, pilots, emerging technology, and strategy efforts. This Product Manager will be expected to lead the execution of pilots, support the development of new pilots; develop and analyze policy, compare strategies in regulatory proceedings; and assist with the development of the strategy to scale VGI. The Product Manager will also monitor the transportation electrification and energy storage market for advances in technology, pricing and product offerings.

Specifically, the Product Manager will be responsible for:
VGI Pilots and Programs:
Responsible for managing and supporting several of PG&E’s approved VGI pilots including the technical, operational, and regulatory aspects.
Support ideation, development and management of any new VGI pilots in support of company goals.
Acts as a subject matter expert in analyzing, testing, and scaling new VGI technologies and grid integration platforms.

VGI Policy:
Responsible for contributing to regulatory proceedings, including implementation of CPUC’s Transportation Electrification Framework (TEF) and other future CPUC, CEC, CARB or other agency regulations.
Act as a subject matter expert for ongoing VGI regulatory and policy activities as VGI policies and regulation continue to be developed and deployed.
Support VGI-related discussions with the CPUC, CEC, California Air Resources Board (CARB) and other government and policy-based organizations, leading cross-functional teams within PG&E to develop policy positions.

VGI Strategy and Analytics:
Responsible for supporting the development and ongoing use of the analytical tools to help inform PG&E’s internal VGI strategy including: cost effectiveness evaluation and use case valuation
Conduct and use research and data to shape products, direction, advocacy or program plans.
Contribute to executive and board-level materials to gain buy-in from key decision makers.
Represent the company at regulatory proceedings, industry forums and events to communicate our TE strategy and advocate for innovative TE solutions.

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the ability to apply analytical tools, methodologies, and frameworks to business or policy issues. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate excellent communication skills in executive and regulatory settings.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.

A reasonable salary range is:
Bay Area Minimum: $118,000
Bay Area Maximum: $188,000
and/or
California Minimum: $112​,000
California Maximum: $179​,000

Job Responsibilities
Analysis
Designs and develops regulatory and commercial strategies or policy positions.
Leads identification, development, implementation, and resolution of issues associated with complex, cross-functional strategy and policy matters at PG&E.
Leads PG&E-wide work streams, acting as a thought leader applying extensive unique subject matter expertise in the development of strategy or resolution of complex issues.
Researches emerging regulatory issues and emerging policy issues.
Project Management
Leads implementation of complex and emerging pilots
Leads and manages teams and major cross-functional initiatives.
Leads business process improvements for analysis or advocacy activities.
Advocacy
Represents the group on cross-organizational working teams within PG&E.
Negotiates and advocates on behalf of PG&E in regulatory forums and interactions with external stakeholders.

Qualifications

Minimum:
Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Business, Economics, Marketing, Psychology, or related or equivalent experience
Minimum of 8 years of job related experience

Desired:
Master’s degree in engineering, business or related field
Strong knowledge of distribution system design and operations
Utility experience and/or pilot or project development experience
Prior experience with transportation electrification and/or energy storage technologies, use cases and operational capabilities
Understanding of VGI technologies, use cases and operation capabilities
Basic technical understanding of overall electric grid design and operations
Strong drive for results and continuous improvement
Strong verbal / written communication and presentation skills
Proficiency with Word, Excel, Power Point and MS Project
Ability to work in a matrixed environment and a positive, execution oriented mentality
Ability to be creative, versatile, efficient and productive in the face of ambiguity
Technical understanding of overall electric grid design, energy system, and operations
