Job Title: Family Resource Liaison, School Social Worker
Position Function: The Family Resource Liaison assists students by providing services that identify and address the social-emotional-environmental issues that interfere with academic learning. Working with parents/guardians, teachers, administrators and utilizing community resources, the Family Resource Liaison will implement strategies that facilitate positive school adjustment for the student.
Essential Performance Responsibilities:
- Serve as a student advocate.
- Assist in the determination of an appropriate action plan for improving student learning and attendance.
- Gathers and reviews data to identify students with increasing attendance issues.
- Practice and understand laws related to truancy and absenteeism.
- Collaborates with school staff and parents to develop interventions for students who are truant and develops individual service plans to improve attendance.
- Assist in determining obstacles to student learning by providing insight into the social, emotional, physical, and educational status of students and families. Respond to the social and emotional needs of students.
- Collaborate with district staff, building principals and other building staff to support the child and family unit.
- Assist in establishing a positive learning environment.
- Work with a Child Study Team collaborating with various disciplines.
- Work within the MTSS framework to facilitate pre-screening; consult with teachers and staff and provide services to alleviate issues impairing a student’s ability to be successful in the regular classroom.
- May assist with the development of student intervention plans, such as IEP’s, Section 504 Plans, and ELL outcome plans.
- Mobilize school and community resources to enable the child to learn as effectively as possible in a student's education program.
- Serve as liaison and facilitator of community agency services, family and schools, and supervising the referral of students to appropriate community agencies.
- Provide case management and crisis intervention.
- Provide direct services to children and their families at elementary and secondary levels, through group and individual counseling, this may include parenting classes.
- Develop a system of referrals and data collection pertaining to students/families served. Maintain appropriate, confidential records and provide timely reports as needed.
Additional Duties: Assists with additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
Equipment: This position may require the ability to use SMART boards and iPads in addition to basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machine. Must always comply with USD 259’s guidelines for equipment use.
Travel: Limited travel between schools and central offices may be required.
Physical and Mental Demands:
- Work in standard office environments

- Attendance at required meetings
- Additional demands upon request of supervisor

- Ability to communicate both verbally and written in order to communicate with others inside and outside of the organization for the purpose of giving and obtaining information
- Ability to communicate effectively with a Supervisor when their discretion is needed

- Ability to plan, organize, make decisions and prioritize work to meet the daily demands of the building

Interrelations:
- Contact with personnel within the district and with customers and vendors
- Will be working under the direct supervision of the department supervisor in order to complete day to day tasks
- Will be working with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy
- Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues
- Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly, professional manner and provide quick, responsive customer service
Employee Punctuality and Appearance:
- In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave
- Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee’s supervisor or building administrator
- All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of USD 259 and is appropriate for their position
Qualification Profile:
- Master’s-level Social Work degree required.
- Required to have a current, valid Social Work license at a Master's-level or higher, issued by the Behavioral Science Regulatory Board (BSRB) in the state of Kansas.
