The Position
The City of Maple Grove is seeking a Farmers Market cashier! Enjoy the beautiful weather and help us host our amazing farmers market! In this position, you will be responsible for providing excellent customer service to attendees, efficient processing of credit card/EBT sales, timely and accurate reimbursement of vendors as well as related bookkeeping. Work Schedule:
Market: Approximately 6 hours (2:30 - 8:00 PM) every Thursday from early May through September; 4.5 hours (2:30-7:00 PM) the first three Thursdays of October; and 4 hours (2:30 – 6:30 PM) two days in March, April, November and December.
Office: Up to 6 hours one day per week, preferably Friday or Monday, from May to the end of October. Up to 8 hours each month for November and December, April and March. Up to 6 hours each month for January and February.
- Answers general questions from customers regarding the Farmers Market and specific questions about using EBT/SNAP and credit cards at the Farmers Market.
- Utilizes wireless EBT/SNAP and credit card terminal to sell tokens to Farmers Market shoppers and accurately records and balances all electronic transactions. Responsible for creation and maintenance of worksheets and forms (either electronically or paper) used in token transactions
- Collects EBT/SNAP and credit card tokens from vendors and generates necessary financial forms for vendor reimbursement. Follows up with vendors and/or Finance Department on any outstanding reimbursement related matters.
- Maintains an accurate running token inventory and prepares necessary tokens and related supplies for market day.
- Sells farmers market promotional items at market, records and balances cash.
- Assists with supervision and work flow of Farmers Market volunteers at Market Information Booth when Supervisor is unavailable.
- Provides office support for Farmers Market programs and activities including but not limited to, PoP club, customer reward program, mailings/promotions, special events, and expense tracking.
- Attends staff/vendor trainings and meetings. Provides input and feedback on all aspects of market operations, particularly related to token programs, customer service, and vendor relations.
- Follows established City policies and procedures.
- Monitors funding / grant program requirements and completes grantor’s reporting requirements in a timely fashion.
- Participates as a Farmers Market team member to ensure the program’s compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Minnesota Human Rights Act.
- Performs other Farmer’s Market-related duties as requested by the Market Coordinator/Market Manager.
Need to have:
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Minimum of one year of customer service experience, preferably in the public sector or retail setting with emphasis on customer service/cashiering.
- Available during market hours

- Willingness to learn about and support people with varied backgrounds and economic status.

- Proven cashiering skills and experience as well as solid accuracy with math and currency.
- Skilled knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Excel in a professional setting.
- Bookkeeping/reconciliation skills.
- Willingness to work outside in any type of weather, including extreme hot and cold temps.
- Team-oriented nature, with good communication, organization and problem-solving skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Environmental Conditions:
Community Center office and grounds, working closely with others and independently. Outdoor parking lot environment with varying high/low temperatures and precipitation, wind, and humidity for extended periods of time.
Physical Conditions:
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time: general manual dexterity; adequate hearing, vision and speech required.
