Field Worker Nursery
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of this role, Field Worker Nursery, are to:
- Performing all tasks related to nursery operations including but not limited to: planting (by hand or mechanically), cultivate, preparing packets and media for planting, tissue sampling, re-array, selections, transplanting, harvesting, threshing and packaging resulting seed (manually and/or using hand tools/equipment), scouting, rogueing, thinning, weeding, tagging;
- Assess and collect germplasm characteristics traits including but not limited to phenotypic data (Flowering, pubescence, pod wall, hilum), Maturity data, yield estimation, germination and pest pressure data on seed production nurseries and efficacy trials;
- Understands data and identifies, reports and addresses data issues/discrepancies;
- Thresh/shell, clean and condition seeds (Ex. seed treatment) to pack them for planting, inventory or shipping;
- Take a tissue sample (Ex. leaf) and deposit it on a special container provided for analysis;
- Collects and enters data using agriculture technologies;
- Adopt new technologies, methodologies and process improvements on greenhouse, screen houses, an/or open field nurseries activities;
- Remove or connect irrigation hoses;
- Manually weed fields during the growing cycle of the crops;
- Protect crops from different animals (birds, cows, horses, etc.) that may damage them;
- Adhere to Bayer’s Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) standards and complete and/or participate in safety inspections/training and comply with all policies and standard operating procedures;
- Report issues that may affect quality of products to supervisors; alert supervisor of any risk or issues where the employee’s or workplace safety might be at risk;
- Use and maintain in good conditions the personal protection equipment (PPE) according to Safety Program;
- Assist in other projects and duties as required or assigned.

Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED;
- Basic knowledge of IT (Internet, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, or facilities with systems;
- Ability to understand and communicate effectively, both verbally and written;
- Ability to learn applicable technology, to include (but not limited to) handheld devices and desktop computers;
- Ability to function both individually and as a member of a team;
- Be able to lift, push, and pull up to 50lbs;
- Ability to work: days, nights, rotating shifts, weekends and overtime to detail and accuracy;
- Strong attention to details and accuracy.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior agricultural experience;
- Valid drivers’ license (in order to be eligible to drive a company car, your driving record must meet guidelines based on the company’s risk screening for hiring drivers – Motor Vehicle Record will be reviewed as part of pre-employment screening).

- Evaluar y recopilar rasgos característicos del germoplasma, incluidos, entre otros, datos fenotípicos (florecida, pubescencia, pared de la vaina, hilio), datos de madurez, estimación del rendimiento, datos de germinación y existencia de plagas en viveros de producción de semillas y ensayos de eficacia;
- Comprende los datos e identifica, informa y aborda problemas/discrepancias de datos;
- Procesar/descascarar, limpiar y acondicionar las semillas (Ej. tratamiento de semillas) para empaquetarlas para la siembra, el inventario o el envío;
- Tomar una muestra de tejido (Ej. hoja) y depositarla en un recipiente especial provisto para análisis;
- Recopila e ingresa datos utilizando tecnologías agrícolas;
- Adoptar nuevas tecnologías, metodologías y mejoras de procesos en las actividades de invernaderos, casas de malla y/o viveros de campo abierto;
- Retirar o conectar las mangueras de riego;
- Deshierbar manualmente los campos durante el ciclo de crecimiento de los cultivos;
- Proteger los cultivos de diferentes animales (pájaros, vacas, caballos, etc.) que puedan dañarlos;
- Adherirse a los estándares de salud, seguridad y medioambiente (HSE) y garantía de calidad/control de calidad (QA/QC) de Bayer y completar y/o participar en inspecciones/capacitación de seguridad y cumplir con todas las políticas y procedimientos operativos estándar;
- Reportar problemas que puedan afectar la calidad de los productos a los supervisores; alertar al supervisor de cualquier riesgo o problema donde la seguridad del empleado o del lugar de trabajo pueda estar en riesgo;
- Usar y mantener en buenas condiciones los equipos de protección personal (EPP) de acuerdo con el Programa de Seguridad;
- Asistir en otros proyectos y deberes según sea necesario o asignado.
