Finance Director Job Descripon

Dues
Under the general direcon of the City Administrator, the Finance Director oversees the day-to-day financial acvies of the City in accordance with idenfied best pracces in local government finance.
Dues include managing: general ledger, accounts payable, payroll, day-to-day issues, annual budget development, and working with city staff as a team member on any issue.

Plans and works with financial advisors and bond counsel in scheduling and reporng to the City
Council/City Manager on the preparaon, issuance, receipt, and indebtedness of the bond acvies of the City.

Works with the City Administrator on long-range strategic planning, finance policy review, implemenng best pracces in local government finance and development and implementaon of the city budget.

Plans, schedules, and monitors the City’s annual financial statements with independent auditors, along with preparing the City’s CAFR on a mely basis.

Prepares City’s financial statements and submits to the overseeing agencies.

Responsible for a smooth and efficient audit and for addressing issues expressed in the auditors’ management leter.

Plans and implements any GASB pronouncements or changes with proper planning and coordinaon.

Monitors the assessment and collecon of City’s ad valorem property taxes.

Provides consulng advice to the City Council, City Administrator, and Department Directors related to various complex financial and management issues.

Communicates effecvely and courteously with customers, the Mayor, City Councilmembers, public, vendors, contractors, media, professional consultants, and City staff.

Must be able to present reports and answer quesons in a professional and cogent manner.

Minimum Qualificaons:
Bachelor’s Degree in accounng or related field from an accredited college or university; and three (3) to five (5) years of finance/accounng experience.

Preferred Qualificaons:
Previous government finance experience, CPA, CMFO Credenal
MBA/MPA

Salary Range
$65,000 - $120,000 per year plus an excellent comprehensive benefits package. Starng salary is dependent upon qualificaons.
