Job Description:
Paul D. Camp Community College is a small 2-year college in Southeast Virginia. Campuses are located in Franklin and Suffolk. There also is a center in Smithfield. The college offers associate degrees, certificates, and career studies certificates In transfer and career/technical programs; credit and non-credit workforce services and training for businesses and industries; special interest classes for the community; and summer classes for youth through the Regional Workforce Development Center. A dual enrollment program for high school students, online courses, and developmental studies classes are available at the college as well.
The Financial Aid Officer will serve as backup to the Financial Aid Coordinator. Plan, organize and manage daily operations and activities of the Suffolk Financial Aid Office and service to Smithfield Center students. Manage the Work-Study program for Suffolk and Smithfield. Review and revise all student financial aid as well as coordinate Work-Study and Veterans benefit programs within guidelines, with few errors, resulting in satisfactory audits for Suffolk and Smithfield. Perform high-level financial aid computer operations including Satisfactory Academic Progress, Return of Title IV Aid, and Professional Judgments. Provide oversight of Direct Loan Program including monthly reconciliation, annual cohort default rate challenges, liaison with Education Credit Management Corporation (ECMC) and/or other vendors for loan program. Guide students and parents through completing Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) forms and follow-up documents. Answer emails and phone calls within 48 hours. Revise aid for enrollment changes. Work closely with Business Office to ensure the timely disbursement of all federal, state and local funds. Coordinate recruiting activities for Suffolk and Smithfield; perform community workshops for student and parents as needed; and liaison with high school career coaches. Provide financial literacy and loan counseling outreach to current students. Import ISIRs/SARs as needed. Verify conflicting information and make ISIR corrections as needed.
- All full-time classified employees new to the Commonwealth of Virginia will serve a 12-month probationary period.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required, preferably in Business, Information Systems, Accounting, Education, Counseling, Human Services or related field.
- Knowledge of all federal and state financial aid programs.
- Considerable knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply regulations, guidelines, policies and procedures.
- Extensive experience with word processing and spreadsheet software (e.g. MS Office Suite).
- Experience with Student Information Systems.
- Extensive experience in an office setting with decision-making according to specific policy and procedural guidelines.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the educational and economic needs of disadvantaged and first-generation students.
- Demonstrated ability to establish goals and priorities and make decisions based on established policies and procedures.
- Ability to maintain accurate, complete and up-to-date client files and records.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service, while maintaining confidentiality.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; including public speaking.
- Ability to work and make decisions independently under pressure, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, while maintaining composure, and meeting deadlines
- Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment, adapting quickly and easily to competing deadlines.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed to assist students, and during busy peak periods.
- Knowledge of or working experience using PeopleSoft.
- Direct Loan experience (including experience with reconciling Direct Loans monthly and at the end of the year).
- Previous experience as a Veterans Certifying Official designation.
- Previous experience working with and understanding of the educational and economic needs of disadvantaged and first generation students.
- Experience working with the federal financial aid process, veterans financial aid, or college admission process.
- Working knowledge of the principles of management, leadership, organization, and functions of state government.
- Skill in monthly and annual reconciliation of financial accounts in general and federal funds in particular.
