What to Expect

Tesla is seeking a Fire Extinguisher (FEL-A) / Fire Alarm technician (FAL) to support our Gigafactory Texas facilities and upcoming building projects. What You’ll Do

  • This position involves the installation, inspections, trouble shooting, maintenance, replacement and repairing special hazard extinguishing, explosion prevention systems,
  • Fixed/pre-engineered extinguishing systems (securiplex mist, AR-AFFF / AFFF, Novec 1230, Fike, IPD)
  • Portable fire extinguishers, fire extinguishers A, B, C, D, K).
  • Fixed gas detection experience preferred.
  • Notifier fire alarm systems experience & FAL (Active Texas Fire Alarm License or equivalent) preferred.
  • Candidate will possess adequate knowledge of NFPA, including applicable state and local code
  • Candidate must possess excellent written/verbal communication and outstanding customer service skills.
  • Complete and submit all required task-related, activity, productivity, and other documentation in a timely manner.
  • On-call and after-hours work required on occasion per project or facility need.

What You’ll Bring

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 5-10+ years’ experience with fixed/pre-engineered extinguishing systems, fire extinguisher installation, maintenance, repair, testing, tagging (FEL-A)
  • Able to interpret blueprints, diagrams, and specifications.
  • A good working knowledge of computers is necessary.
  • Comfortable with basic technology including email, web browsing, and Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Capable of performing physical labor to include carrying and moving equipment and tools up to 50-70 lbs. Able to work in unusual and sometimes difficult position such as climbing ladders, scaffolding and high lift equipment up to 45 feet, working within ducts, crawl spaces, above ceilings, etc.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends, holidays, night shift to meet customer requirements.
  • Demonstrate a high level of proficiency and a customer service mindset
  • Work well with a diverse team of technicians and other tradespeople
  • Ability to adhere to, implement, and always follow safety guidelines and procedures.
  • Time management skills, positive attitude, and an ability to learn quickly.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and driving record that meets company requirements.
  • Retain any licenses that are required by National, State and Local codes.
  • Ability to wear proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and adhere to strict OSHA and other safety requirements.

Required:

  • Active Fire Extinguisher Fixed System License (FEL-A) An individual with an FEL-A license is permitted to install, inspect, certify, or service all pre-engineered fixed fire extinguishing systems and portable extinguishers.
  • Technical training preferred
  • NICET (NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR CERTIFICATION IN ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGIES) 2+ Special Hazards certification a plus.
  • Factory certifications a plus, Securiplex Mist, Novec 1230, Fike SRD-HRD / IPD Combustible Dust Explosion Prevention
  • Experience with fixed gas detection analyzers and life safety panels a plus i.e., Siemens, Draeger
  • In Lieu of Texas State Licensing the below certifications can be acceptable, (appropriate Texas State Fire Marshal Licensing will be required within a reasonable amount of time).
  • An individual with an FEL-A license is permitted to install, certify, or service all pre-engineered fixed fire extinguishing systems and portable extinguishers.
  • The following certifications offered by the International Code Council (ICC) and the National Association of Fire Equipment Distributors (NAFED) can replace the requirement to take and pass the TFM02, TFM03, and TFM04 technical exam for a Type A (FEL-A) license.

· ICC/NAFED - Certified Portable Fire Extinguisher Technician Exam; and

· ICC/NAFED - Pre-Engineered Kitchen Fire Extinguishing Systems Technician Exam; and

· ICC/NAFED - Pre-Engineered Industrial Fire Extinguishing System Technician Exam; and

· NAFED - Engineered Fire Suppression Systems Technician Exam.

  • Out of State Licenses can be accepted if an applicant holds a license issued by another state that has license requirements equivalent to the license requirements of this state.
