Job Summary

The Fitness & Operations Coordinator creates and administers fitness and wellness programming for all patrons of the Chaska Community Center and Parks and Recreation department. This position will assist in organizing and supervising the day-to-day fitness operations and programming areas which includes providing program support, fitness equipment monitoring, and scheduling staff. In addition, this position provides supervision and leadership for the CCC during evening and weekends and effectively handles a variety of safety and customer services situations with superior customer service relations.
Hours include evenings, weekends, and holidays (as needed). Hours may vary based on organizational needs.

General schedule:
Saturday: 12pm-8pm, or 1pm-9pm
Sunday: 8am-4pm
Monday: 12pm-8pm, or* 1pm-9pm*
Tuesday: 12pm-8pm, or* 1pm-9pm*
Wednesday: 12pm-8pm, or* 1pm-9pm*
Thursday: Off
Friday: Off

Responsibilities

  • Provides training and instruction to patrons within the scope of fitness and wellness offerings, including teaching group fitness and specialty classes.
  • Assists with providing leadership to fitness instructors, personal trainers, holistic and nutritional health coaches, within the scope of City employment rules and standards.
  • Assists Fitness Supervisor in creating marketing materials for all fitness offerings and activities and ensures distribution to appropriate audiences including social media.
  • Helps conduct needs assessments or surveys to determine interest in, or satisfaction with, wellness and fitness programs, events, or services as well as tracking performance and attendance data to help determine success.
  • Assists with Fitness Supervisor & Maintenance staff to oversee fitness facility, wellness area and studios ensuring safe and clean facilities and equipment.
  • Enforces Chaska Community Center policies by conducting frequent walk throughs of the building. Supports other part-time staff in enforcing established policies and procedures.
  • In conjunction with the Aquatics & Operations Coordinator, provides management support to all CCC staff during the night and weekend hours.
  • Serves as a member of the CCC emergency response team. Responsible for understanding and knowing the Emergency Action Plan for all areas of the facility.
  • Serves as primary back-up for the Fitness Supervisor. As needed, provides leadership and support in the absence of direct supervisor, and assists over all operations of the facility.
  • Provides superior customer service and strives to create a positive customer experience to promote on-going and repeat business.
  • Remains actively visible and engaged with staff and customers in the facility during open hours of operation.
  • Performs all other related duties as requested or assigned

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Post-secondary training in Recreation, Public Administration, Business or other related field preferred
  • 2 years’ experience in Group Fitness, Personal Training, or Public Relations/Customer Service
  • Nationally recognized group fitness and/or personal training certification (ACE, NETA, AEA, ACSM or equivalent), or willing to obtain within first 30 days of hire.
  • Current American Red Cross (ARC) CPR and First Aid Certification, or willing to obtain within first 30 days of hire.

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, with a desire to help lead team of fitness employees.
  • Must be self-directed and detail-oriented, while exercising the ability to problem solve and use independent judgement.
  • Possess the ability to identify and assess hazards and unsafe practices and formulate recommendations for effective remediation.
  • Strong ability to multi-task and remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Dedicated to patron safety and the mission and philosophy of the City of Chaska.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to work holidays, as needed.

Pay: $55,244.80 - $69,056.00 per year
