GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

THIS POSITION IS OPEN TO CURRENT CITY OF CAPE CORAL EMPLOYEES AND THE PUBLIC IS WELCOME TO APPLY.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university in floodplain management, emergency management, planning, environmental studies, engineering, hydrology/hydraulics, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), governmental studies or a related field; or High School diploma/GED and four (4) additional years of related experience.
  • Six (6) years of professional level experience in one or more of the following fields: building or construction plan review; elevation certificate review; National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) requirements; Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) interpretation; or assisting in the development and implementation of other floodplain management related programs and/or green building.

Licenses or Certifications

  • Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM®) certificate and maintain required continuing education requirements, or obtain and maintain the CFM Certificate within (6) months of hire or promotion.
  • Must possess a valid state driver's license and obtain a valid Florida driver's license within thirty (30) days of hire or promotion.


THE POSITION
Below is a brief overview of the role, not a full job description.

  • Reviews floodplain/building permits for structures within floodplains and inspects developments to determine compliance with the community development standards and NFIP requirements.
  • Explains floodplain development requirements to community leaders, citizens, and the general public when requested.
  • Maintains records and documents that keep the community eligible to participate in the FEMA’s NFIP and Community Rating System (CRS).
  • Perform other related duties as required.
