Front End Courtesy Clerk - PT 24 hrs. per wk.
Department: Front End
Reports To: Front End Manager
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Salary Level: $15.50 - $19.50 / hr.


Summary: Responsible to work with front end employees and customers to speedily and courteously bag customer purchases.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Include the following: Other duties may be assigned.

Customer Service –
  • Treat customers in a prompt, friendly, attentive, cheerful, and helpful manner.
  • Greet customers while they are at the checkout stand.
  • Assist customers and answer their questions, respond to their needs and requests.
Bagging Groceries –
  • Bag customer’s purchases properly with heavy items on bottom, light items on top, glass cushioned with other items, etc.
  • Use bags customer brings in when appropriate.
  • Provide the requested number of bags.
  • Carry groceries to customer’s vehicle upon request.
  • Retrieve empty carts from outside the co-op.
  • Keep the front of the store clean and uncluttered.
  • Stack and return empty baskets from check outs.
Work Environment –
  • Work in a positive, cooperative, and friendly manner with other employees.
  • Arrive to work on time and complete shifts.
  • Know product locations in store, perform price checks on request.
  • Perform related duties as required.
Responsibilities to Safety:
  • Protect the safety of self, co-worker's, and BriarPatch Co-op patrons at all times.
  • Report any potentially harmful equipment or situations to the immediate supervisor without delay.
  • Report safety-related accidents and incidents at once to supervisor.
  • Follow all company and safety policies and procedures.
  • Operate equipment in a safe manner that will not lead to injury of self or others.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience: May be high school student (minimum age 18) or prefer high school graduate/GED. Previous customer service / courtesy clerk experience preferred, not required.

Language Skills:
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to complete forms.
  • Ability to speak effectively with customers or employees.
Mathematical Skills:
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.
Reasoning Ability:
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or electronic form.
  • Computer Skills:
  • An individual should have knowledge of general computers and basic computer programs such as Word, Excel.
