About Bedrock

Bedrock is operationalizing the largest Earth-exploration mission in human history. We're doing that by developing robotics & software to explore, map, and classify the entirety of Earth's ocean floor. The oceans are a critical component of climate stabilization. Our hope is to provide critical subsea data and infrastructure to further understand and predict the fundamental forces that support harmonious human existence on this planet.

About You and The Role

The ocean covers over 70% of our planet - we need the sea to survive - but despite its importance we know little about it. Over 80% of the ocean has never been mapped; moreover, it's believed that less than 5% has been mapped at least at a 100m resolution.

The truth is that humans know more about the surfaces of the Moon and Mars than our own ocean floor. We at Bedrock think that needs to change. Quickly.

To tackle this mission, we'r using autonomous submarines and our cloud platform to drive understanding of the ocean. To help us scale, we're looking for a Senior Frontend Engineer to join us either remotely, or in our Brooklyn, NY or Richmond, CA offices.

As a member of the Application Engineering team, you'll work to develop Mosaic, our web platform for seafloor data management and survey planning. Your role will be everything and anything frontend: client-side architecture, style and appearance, network interactions, and beyond. You'll have opportunity to lead projects, collaboratively shape processes, and drive the adoption of new frontend technologies as the application grows.

What You'll Do

• Design and ship maintainable frontend code

• Collaborate with other software engineers, designers, and product managers to build out Mosaic's survey planning and operational capabilities

• Participate in technical design reviews, code review, and user feedback sessions

• Serve as a frontend technical mentor and thought-leader within the team

• Stay aware of the state-of-the-art in all aspects of frontend development

What You'll Bring

• A work style that puts collaboration and healthy, respectful communication first

• Experience building, scaling, and supporting complex web applications

• Expert knowledge of Typescript and the React/Redux ecosystem

• Experience writing automated tests using modern testing frameworks

• Proven experience as a technical lead

Bonus Points

• Previous experience working with web mapping libraries such as Mapbox GL and Deck.gl

• Understanding of geospatial data storage, analysis, and display

• Familiarity with CI/CD development practices

• Experience and/or excitement about working in a fast-growing startup environment

Compensation Range: $135K - $150K
